Men’s Soccer Records A Comeback Win At UMass, 2-1

Pepe Lora scored the game-winning goal for the Friars.

AMHERST, Mass.- The Providence College men's soccer team defeated the UMass Minutemen (0-1-2), 2-1, in a non-conference matchup on Monday, Sept. 2 in Amherst, Mass. The Friars improved to a 2-1-1 overall record. Junior Bruno Rosa (Cascais, Portugal) tied the game with his first goal of the season. Graduate student Pepe Lora (Madrid, Spain) secured the victory by netting the game-winner, his third goal in the Friars' first four games this season.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
• The Friars started off strong offensively as Bruno Rosa (Cascais, Portugal) took two shots within the opening two minutes of the match.
• The Minutemen gained a 1-0 lead towards the end of the first half (31:01).
• Lora came close to leveling the score for the Friars with a bicycle kick that landed just wide of the goal.
• Rosa scored the 1-1 equalizer for the Friars in the 59th minute after he kicked a one-touch volley that found the back of the net. Bernardo Prego (Evora, Portugal) was awarded the assist.
• With 13 minutes to go, Harry Scarborough (Wigan, England) passed to Lora who hit the game-winning shot from the top of the box to give the Friars a 2-1 lead.
• Both teams recorded double digits in shots. Providence outshot UMass 15-12.
