Pepe Lora scored his first two goals as a Friar on Thursday night.


PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College men's soccer team defeated the Quinnipiac Bobcats, 2-0, in the 2024 season-opener on Thursday, Aug. 22, on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I. Graduate student Pepe Lora (Madrid, Spain) made his Friar debut and scored both goals of the game. Graduate goalkeeper Lukas Burns (Cinnnaminson, N.J.) recorded his 17th career shutout.

GAME FLOW & NOTES

• Lora opened the scoring in the 27th minute, netting his first collegiate goal as a Friar to give the team an early 1-0 lead. Israel Neto (Salvador, Brazil) and Vasco Teixeira (Arrentela, Portugal) were each awarded an assist on the play.

• The Friars took a 2-0 lead two minutes into the second half (47:37). Junior Bruno Rosa (Cascais, Portugal) made a long cross from the right sideline allowing for Lora to score another one touch finish inside of the penalty box. This marked his second goal of the night.

• Providence was awarded a penalty kick with 19 minutes left to play. Bobcat goalkeeper, Karl Netzel saved Diego Batista's (Barcelos, Portugal) kick off the line. Rodrigo Vaza (Torres Vedras, Portugal) took a shot off the rebound that landed just wide of the left post.

• The Friars found another chance in the 74th minute after Aidan Davock (Medway, Mass.) headed the ball inside the penalty box that hit the crossbar.

• The Friars outshot Quinnipiac 9-1 in the second half and 17-5 overall. 

• Burns recorded his 17th career shutout.

(2-0)-Providence- 47:37 / 2nd -Rosa made a long cross into the box. Lora was there for another one-touch finish.
