Two Friars Selected On Day Two Of The 2024 NHL Draft

John Mustard and Logan Sawyer were selected in the third round on Saturday.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Two additional Friars were selected on day two of the 2024 NHL Draft held at Sphere in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, June 29. Future Friars John Mustard (Oradell, N.J.) was selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the third round (67th overall) and Logan Sawyer (Orangeville, Ont.) was selected in the third round (78th overall) by the Montreal Canadiens. 
 
Mustard, a 6-foot-1, 186-pound forward was named USHL Rookie of the Year in 2023-24 after registering 29 goals and 27 assists for 56 points in 60 games played with the Waterloo Black Hawks. He ranked second among all USHL rookies in points and led all rookies with seven game-winning goals, seven power-play goals and 205 shots on goal. At the 2024 Chipotle All-American Prospects Game, he scored the game-winning overtime goal. Mustard also participated in the 2024 NHL Scouting Combine back in June and was ranked No. 27 for North American skaters on the NHL's Central Scouting rankings entering the draft. He is the eighth Friar to be selected by the Chicago Blackhawks, joining future teammates Taige Harding and Connor Kelley.
 
Sawyer, a 6-foot-1, 175-pound forward appeared in 59 games with the Brooks Bandits split between the AJHL and BCHL, totaling 78 points on 35 goals and 43 assists. In 12 playoff games, he amassed 15 points on seven goals and eight assists. Sawyer also appeared internationally for Canada West at the 2023 World Junior A Challenge, earning a gold medal while recording three goals and three assists in six games. Prior to Brooks, he played one season at Stanstead College (Que.) where he accumulated 112 points on 61 goals and 51 assists over 76 games played. Sawyer was ranked No. 114 for North American skaters on the NHL's Central Scouting rankings entering the draft. He is the 10th Friar to be selected by the Montreal Canadiens with the last being Hayden Hawkey back in 2014.
