PROVIDENCE, R.I. – It was announced by USA Hockey on Thursday, June 20 that Providence College's Tanner Adams (Northport, N.Y.) and Trevor Connelly (Tustin, Calif.) were two of 46 players invited to the 2024 World Junior Summer Showcase in Plymouth, Michigan from July 26 – August 3.
The Showcase serves as an evaluation for athletes seeking to make their respective national teams for the 2025 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship that is set for December 26, 2024, through January 5, 2025 in Ottawa, Ontario. A total of nine games will be played among the United States, Canada, Sweden and Finland as part of the Showcase.
Adams, a rising sophomore at Providence, finished second on the Friars in scoring in 2023-24 with 21 points on six goals and 15 assists, including two power-play goals and two game-winning goals. Adams has previous international experience, earning a gold medal with the U.S. at the 2022 World Junior A Challenge and also participating at the 2022 Hlinka Gretzky Cup. He is eligible for the upcoming NHL Draft and ranks No. 140 among North American skaters on the NHL's Central Scouting Rankings.
Connelly, an incoming freshman, ranked second in the USHL in scoring in 2023-24 with 78 points on 31 goals and 47 assists, averaging 1.50 points per game for the Tri-City Storm. At the 2023 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, he finished tied for the most points in the tournament with 10, registering five goals and five assists in five games. Connelly also earned a silver medal at the 2024 IIHF Under-18 World Championship where he posted four goals and five assists for nine points in seven games played. He is currently ranked No. 6 among North American skaters on the NHL's Central Scouting Rankings and is expected to be a first-round pick in next week's NHL Draft.
