- The Friars came out flying, carrying an early 9-0 advantage in shots on goal in the opening six minutes of action.
- Clint Levens had the best bid of the period with a clear breakaway from center ice, but his snap shot was denied by Ollas.
- The Friars appeared to score just 14 seconds into the middle frame, but the goal was taken off the board due to goaltender interference.
- Despite continuous pressure by the Friars, Merrimack struck for a pair of goals in a span of 2:32. Michael Citara and Mac Welsher gave the Warriors a 2-0 lead after 40 minutes.
- Liam Valente's fourth goal of the year drew the Friars within one with 14:54 left in the third period.
