Providence College Suffers 84-72 Loss At DePaul

CHICAGO, ILL. – The Providence College women's basketball team suffered an 84-72 loss at DePaul on Feb. 7 in Chicago, Ill. The Friars dropped to 11-13 on the season (5-6 BIG EAST), while the Blue Demons improved to 12-13 (4-8 BIG EAST).
1ST QUARTER:
• The Friars hit their first four shots attempts from the field for a 10-4 lead.
• DePaul responded with a 14-3 run to take a 18-13 lead at the 3:59 mark.
• The Blue Demons finished the quarter with a 12-4 edge in scoring to claim a 30-19 lead at the intermission.
• Both teams shot the ball well in the opening quarter. The Friars were 8-13 from the field (.615), including 3-4 from three point territory (.750). DePaul converted 11-15 from the field (.733), including a 5-7 showing from beyond the arc (.714).
2ND QUARTER:
• Providence opened the second quarter with a 10-0 run and forced three DePaul turnovers to get within one (30-29) with 6:50 on the clock.
• DePaul extended its lead its lead to 37-31 as the Friars went scoreless for nearly three and a half minutes.
• Ugne Sirtautaite scored five-straight points to help Providence cut the deficit to 39-36 with 1:39 to play.
• DePaul maintained a three-point lead at halftime (42-39).
• Emily Archibald paced the Friars with eight points in the first half, while Anaya Peoples tallied nine points for the Blue Demons.
3RD QUARTER:
• DePaul used an 8-2 scoring edge to take a 54-45 lead into the media timeout (4:34).
• The Friars closed within four with an 8-2 scoring run. Brynn Farrell was responsible for six of Providence's eight points in the effort (58-54).
• The Blue Demons led 63-56 at the intermission.
4TH QUARTER:
• The Friars found themselves trailing by 15 with 4:06 remaining in the game.
• A 6-0 spurt helped Providence cut the deficit to single digits (76-67) with 1:04 to play.
• A three from the top of the key by Farrell made it a six-point game with 46-seconds remaining (78-72).
• DePaul closed the game with six unanswered points to claim an 84-72 victory.
NOTES:
• Farrell paced four Friars in double figures with 18 points. She was 10-10 from the free-throw line for the game.
• Providence was 17-18 from the foul line overall.
• Archibald and Olsen each chipped in 11 points.
• Olsen added four rebounds, two assists one block and one steal. Her four boards moved her into 25th on the Friars' all-time rebounding list (567). She passed Joanie Powers '86, who finished her career with 566 boards.
• Marta Morales Romero added 10 points and a team-best six rebounds and four assists.
• All 10 players who saw action for the Friars cracked the scoring column.
WHAT'S NEXT:
• The Friars head to Washington, D.C. to face Georgetown in BIG EAST play on Saturday, Feb. 10. The game will be played at McDonough Arena and is scheduled to tip-off at 7:00 p.m.
