Friars' Tough Shooting Night Leads To 54-44 Loss At Georgetown

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Providence College women's basketball team fell to BIG EAST foe Georgetown, 54-44, on Feb. 10 at McDonough Arena in Washington, D.C. Olvia Olsen paced Providence with 16 points and eight rebounds. The Friars dipped to 11-14 overall (5-7 BIG EAST), while the Hoyas improved to 16-8 (6-7 BIG EAST).
1ST QUARTER:
• Providence trailed by 10 points before Emily Archibald scored the Friars' first field goal of the game with 42-seconds left (13-5).
• The Hoyas took a 15-5 lead into the intermission.
• The Friars were 1-7 (.143) from the floor in the first quarter, while Georgetown converted 6-19 attempts (.316).
2ND QUARTER:
• Georgetown scored 17-seconds into the frame but went scoreless for 4:55.
• Providence used a 6-0 run to get within six (17-11) heading into the media timeout (4:48).
• The Hoyas pushed back out to a double-digit lead but a 7-1 Friar run cut the deficit to 22-18.
• Providence outscored Georgetown 15-9 in the second quarter and trailed 24-20 at halftime.
• Olsen (nine) and Brynn Farrell (six) combined to score all 15 of the Friars' points in the frame.
3RD QUARTER:
• The Friars took a 30-26 lead as they started the third with a 10-2 offensive spurt.
• Grace Efosa scored six points and Ugne Sirtautaite added four points in the run.
• The Hoyas regained the lead (35-33) with 1:05 on the clock, but the Olsen evened the score, 35-35, with a lay-in to finish the third quarter scoring.
4TH QUARTER:
• Georgetown forced a Providence timeout with an 8-0 run in a span of 1:27. The run gave the Hoyas a 46-39 lead with 4:40 to play.
• The Hoyas extended the run to 10-0 before Olsen converted a putback with 3:06 left (48-41).
• The Friars scored just three points from the foul line in the final 1:25 of the game.
• Georgetown sealed the game from the free-throw line with a 6-6 showing in the final 34-seconds of play.
NOTES:
• Olsen paced the Friars with 16 points and added eight rebounds, one blocked shot and a career-high five steals.
• Farrell and Efosa each added 10 points.
• Providence entered the game as the second-best three-point shooting team in the BIG EAST, but failed to convert a triple for the first time this season, finishing the game 0-14 from deep.
• The Friars outrebounded the Hoyas 42-36.
• The Hoyas registered a 14-9 scoring edge in points off turnovers. The Friars committed 20 turnovers in the game, while Georgetown turned the ball over 15 times.
