Women's Hoops Drops 55-48 Decision Against Butler

Friars return to action on Sunday, Feb. 18 against Xavier.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Butler, 55-48, on Feb. 14 at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. The Friars have lost four-straight games and own an 11-15 overall record (5-8 BIG EAST). Butler, winners of two-straight games, improved to 11-13 overall (3-10 BIG EAST).
 
1ST QUARTER:
• The Friars scored the first bucket of the game, before Butler scored seven-straight during a span of 1:27.
• Providence answered with an 11-2 run to go ahead 13-9 (1:14).
• Butler's Caroline Strande hit a three from the left wing to cut the lead to one at the intermission (13-12).
Olivia Olsen scored six of the Friars' 13 points in the opening 10 minutes on 3-4 shooting.
 
2ND QUARTER:
• The offense remained sluggish for both teams early in the second.
• Butler scored the first four points in the frame to take a 16-13 lead.
• The Friars scored their first points of the second quarter on a Kendall Eddy jumper with 4:47 on the clock to get within one (16-15). 
• The Bulldogs outscored the Friars 12-4 to close the quarter to claim a 28-19 lead at halftime.   
 
3RD QUARTER:
Marta Morales Romero opened the third with a triple from the top of the key, which sparked a 7-2 run to get within four (30-26).
• Butler extended its lead to 13 with 1:38 to play on the strength of an 11-2 run.
• Morales Romero scored four unanswered points for the Friars to close the quarter and make it a 43-34 game at the break.
 
4TH QUARTER:
• Providence endured a four-minute scoring drought as Butler gained a 50-36 lead with 4:59 to play.
• The Friars went on a 5-0 spurt to cut the deficit to single digits (50-41) with 2:43 to play.
• Providence closed within seven on a three by Olsen to finish the game (55-48).
 
NOTES:
• Olsen was the lone Friar to reach double figures in the scoring column (11).
• Efosa added eight points and Morales Romero scored seven.
Brynn Farrell led the Friars on the boards, with seven.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
• The Friars return to action on Sunday, Feb. 18 against Xavier. The game will be played at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. and is scheduled to tip-off at 2:00 p.m. A live broadcast will be available on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) via FloSports.
