Friars will host Penn State on Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 7:00 p.m.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's basketball team shook off a slow start in the first quarter to defeat Brown, 87-81, in overtime on Dec. 7 at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. The Friars improved to 6-5 on the season, while Brown dropped to 4-6.
 
1ST QUARTER:
• Brown used an 10-0 run to claim a 14-4 lead (2:44).
Grace Efosa halted the run with a pull-up jumper at the right block with 2:28 on the clock (14-6).
• Providence cut the deficit to six (14-8) with a lay-in by Brynn Farrell at the 1:22 mark, but Brown closed the quarter with a triple from the left wing (17-8). 
Olivia Olsen scored four of the Friars' eight points in the quarter.
 
2ND QUARTER:
• Brown outscored Providence 6-5 during the first 5:23 of the second to take a 23-13 lead at the media (4:37).
• Providence went on a 9-0 run to get within four (23-19) with 3:29 on the clock.
• The Friars extended their run to 15-2 to tie the game at the 1:31 mark.
• Olivia Young ended a five-minute scoring drought for Brown with a three-point bucket, which put the Bears back in the lead (28-25).
• Farrell beat the buzzer heading into halftime to tie the game, 28-28.
• Providence outscored Brown 20-11 in the second quarter overall.
• Farrell and Efosa each scored 10 points for the Friars in the first half.
 
3RD QUARTER:
• Brown jumped out to a 51-39 lead with 2:47 left in the frame.
MacKayla Scarlett and Sophi Hall hit back-to-back threes and Hall got loose for a transition bucket to make it a four-point game (51-47) and force a Brown timeout with 1:23 on the clock. 
• The Bears carried a 53-49 lead into the final 10 minutes of play.
 
4TH QUARTER:
Marta Morales Romero hit a three with 6:35 on the clock to give Providence its first lead since the 8:48 mark of the first quarter (2-0).
• Morales Romero's bucket was part of a 7-0 run that put Providence ahead 63-60 midway through the fourth.
• Brown responded with a 5-0 spurt to regain the lead with 3:55 to play (65-63).
• The teams exchanged the lead five times with the Friars landing on a 72-70 advantage with 1:24 to play.
• Brown called its final two timeouts of the game with 40-seconds to play, trailing by two (72-70).
• Isabella Mauricio made a pair of free throws with 33-seconds left to tie the game, 72-72.
• Providence committed a turnover on its final possession and the game went to overtime.
 
OVERTIME:
• The Friars took their first lead in OT on an and-1 from Orlagh Gormley (80-79) with 1:57 left.
• Efosa extended the lead with a jumper in the paint and Olivia Olsen blocked a shot and grabbed the defensive board on the Bears' next possession (82-79).
• Farrell sank a pair of free throws to give the Friars an 84-79 lead with 23-seconds to play.
• Brown scored off a put-back with 14-seconds left (84-81).
• Farrell hit one of two free throws to make it a two-possession game with 14-seconds left.
• Efosa grabbed a steal on the defensive end and was fouled. She connected on both free throws to seal the game with four seconds remaining to earn a 87-81 win.
 
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• Efosa and Farrell each scored 27 points in the victory.
• It marked Efosa's team-best fourth 20+ point game of the season and she shot 12-19 from the field and 3-3 from the free throw line. She also contributed six rebounds, one assist and two steals.
• Farrell's 27-point effort marked a career-high. She shot 8-10 from the field, including 2-3 from beyond the arc. At the line she converted 9-11 attempts. She dished five assists and added four rebounds.
• Gormley dished a career-best six assists and added three steals, one blocked shot and two rebounds.
• Morales Romero scored seven of her nine points in the decisive second half for the Friars. She shot 4-5 from the field and added two assists and two blocked shots.
• Providence is 1-1 this season in overtime games. Both overtime games have been against Ivy League teams.

• Providence will return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 11 against Penn State. The game will be played at Alumni Hall / Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I. and is slated to tipoff at 7:00 p.m.
