Last Time Out vs. St. Lawrence
- John Mustard scored the game-winning goal midway through the third period as the No. 10 Providence College men's hockey team defeated St. Lawrence, 2-1, at the Adirondack Winter Invitational at Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, N.Y. With the win, Providence earned its 10th victory of the season.
- Tanner Adams got Providence on the board first for the second time this weekend as he finished off a strong net-drive from John Mustard for his team-high eighth goal of the season at 3:21 of the opening period.
- The Friars outshot the Saints by a 14-5 margin in the first period.
- Tyler Cristall tied the game up for the Saints at 1-1 just 2:23 into the second period.
- Providence killed off both St. Lawrence power-play opportunities in the second period to keep the game tied going into the third period.
- At 8:51 of the third period, Adams found Mustard streaking down the slot and he slid a forehand shot through the legs of Basse while being tripped to put the Friars up 2-1. It was Mustard's fourth tally of the season.
- Mustard appeared to give the Friars a 3-1 lead on a late power-play opportunity but the goal was waived off after a St. Lawrence challenge for goaltender interference.
- Providence closed the game out with a strong defensive effort in the final minutes.
- Adams has scored in three-consecutive games.
- Mustard has rides a three-game point streak (2-2-4).
- Friar captain Chase Yoder appeared in his 150th career game for the Friars on Saturday.
 
Scouting the Tigers:
- No. 8 Colorado College (9-2-1, 3-2-1 NCHC) enters their weekend series with the Friars following a weekend without action. The Tigers last played on Nov. 22-23 when they hosted No. 11/10 St. Cloud State, losing 3-2 Friday (Nov. 22) before winning 1-0 in overtime Saturday (Nov. 23).
- This weekend marks the return of former Friar Associate Head Coach Kris Mayotte, who spent five seasons with Providence (2014-19) and helped guide the Friars to the 2015 National Championship and a berth in the 2019 Frozen Four. He is currently in his third season as Head Coach of Colorado College.
- Through 12 games this season, forward Klavs Veinbergs (5-3-8) leads the team in goals with five, followed by four from Max Burkholder (4-5-9), and three goals from five different players.
- Forward Noah Laba (1-8-9) paces the Tigers in assists this season eight, followed by seven from Ty Gallagher (3-7-10), and five from both Burkholder and Bret Link (2-5-7).
- Overall, Gallagher leads the Tigers in total points this season with 10, followed by nine from both Noah Laba and Max Burkholder and eight from Klavs Veinbergs. In total, 20 players have tallied a point this season, including nine players with 5+ points.
- In net, Colorado College has turned to junior Kaidan Mbereko, who in 12 starts has guided the Tigers to a 9-2-1 record alongside a 1.56 goals against average and .940 save percentage. Mbereko's performance has been among the best nationally this season, as his 1.56 goals against average ranks fifth lowest behind Maine's Albin Boija (1.50), Western Michigan's Cameron Rowe (1.49), Dartmouth's Emmett Croteau (1.37), and Minnesota State's Alex Tracy (1.37). Additionally, Mbereko's .940 save percentage ranks sixth-best nationally, trailing Tracy (.947), Western Michigan's Hampton Slukynsky (.947), Rowe (.943), Brown's Lawton Zacher (.943), and Augustana's Josh Kotai (.943).
- As a team, Colorado College is allowing just 1.6 goals per game this season, tied with Maine as the third-best mark nationally, trailing only Michigan State and Minnesota State with 1.5 goals per game.
 
Series History vs. Colorado College (7-5-3, .567)
This weekend's slate with Colorado College marks the first meeting between the Friars and Tigers in 10 years, with the most recent result being a Providence sweep over Colorado College that saw the Friars win 5-4 in overtime on Jan. 3, 2015 before winning 5-3 in regulation on Jan. 4, 2015. Through 15 games all time, Providence leads the series 7-5-3. The Friars currently hold a seven-game unbeaten streak (4-0-3) against Colorado College dating back to 1989.
 
Eight Former Friars Earn Spots On NHL Opening Night Rosters
The Friars boasted eight alums that appeared on NHL opening night rosters - Noel Acciari (PIT), Jacob Bryson (BUF), Vincent Desharnais (VAN), Brandon Duhaime (WSH), Mark Jankowski (NSH), Kevin Rooney (CGY), Brandon Tanev (SEA) and Jake Walman (SJ).
 
Berard Makes NHL Debut; Stauber Posts First-Career Shutout
Former Friar Brett Berard made his NHL debut for the New York Rangers on Nov. 25, earning an assist against St. Louis. He followed up with his first-career goal the following game at Carolina. Former Friar netminder Jaxson Stauber earned his first NHL shutout and the first shutout in Utah Hockey Club history with a 29-save performance in a 6-0 win at Vegas on Nov. 30.
 
Leaman Hits Milestone
Head Coach Nate Leaman earned his 249th career victory at Providence on Nov. 11, 2023, passing Lou Lamoriello as the program's winningest head coach all-time. On October 25, Leaman hit 400 career wins as a Division I head coach in Providence's 3-2 overtime win at Vermont. Leaman is the only Hockey East coach to post a winning record in each of the last 12 seasons.
 
Leading the Pack:
Through 15 games this season, Tanner Adams (8-5-13) leads the Friars with eight goals on the year, followed by six from Ryan O'Reilly (6-2-8) and five from Will Elger (5-4-9). Logan Will (4-8-12), Trevor Connelly (2-8-10), and Austen May (0-8-8) all headline the team with eight assists apiece, followed by seven from Andrew Centrella (1-7-8) and another six from Hudson Malinoski (2-6-8). Overall, Adams paces the team with 13 points on the year, followed by 12 from Will and 10 from Connelly.
 
King of the Hill
Through nine conference matchups, Providence (10-3-2, 5-2-2 HEA) sits in second place in the Hockey East standings with 17 points registered, trailing only Maine (10-2-2, 5-2-2 HEA) with 18 points. Rounding out the top five include UMass-Lowell (10-3-1, 5-2-0 HEA) in third with 15 points, Boston University (8-5-1, 4-2-1 HEA) in fourth with 14 points, and both UConn (7-6-1, 4-5-1 HEA) and Vermont (3-7-3, 3-4-2 HEA) tied in fifth place with 13 points each.
 
Poisson Among Active Leaders
With an assist in the third period against Long Island University on Nov. 23, graduate student Nick Poisson became the 55th member of the program to reach the 100-point milestone. Poisson also scored the game-winning goal in the 4-3 win.
 
Quality Check
This weekend's two-game set with No. 8 Colorado College marks the Friars' sixth and seventh meetings with a ranked opponent this season, with their most recent result being a 3-2 overtime win over No. 20/19 Clarkson University on Nov. 29. This season, the Friars are 2-3-0 in ranked matchups, including a 1-2-0 record in Hockey East action.
 
Mustard Earns Hockey East Rookie of the Week Honors
Providence College's John Mustard (Oradell, N.J.) was named Pro Ambitions Hockey East Rookie of the Week on Monday, December 2. Mustard was key in both of Providence's wins last weekend in Lake Placid, as the freshman snagged an assist in the win over Clarkson on Friday before scoring the game-winning goal and another assist in the 2-1 win over St. Lawrence on Saturday. Mustard finished the weekend with 10 shots and a +3 rating.

The Friars are 225-24-25 all-time under Nate Leaman when scoring three or more goals in a game.

The Friars are 200-12-20 all-time under Nate Leaman when holding a lead after two periods.
