PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The 25th-ranked Providence College men's soccer team defeated the No. 7-seed Connecticut Huskies (8-3-6, 3-2-3 BIG EAST), 2-0, in a BIG EAST Quarterfinal match on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 9 in Providence, R.I. The Friars, who entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed, improved to 11-4-3 overall. Graduate Student Israel Neto scored his second goal versus UConn this season to deliver a win for the Friars With the victory, Providence will advance to the BIG EAST Semifinal for the second-consecutive season. The No. 2-seed Friars will face the No. 3 Seed St. John's (7-5-5, 5-1-2 BIG EAST) on Thursday, Nov. 14 at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Md.

GAME FLOW & NOTES 
• Isreal Neto (Salvador, Brazil) and Pearse O'Brien (West Hartford, Conn.) both took charge of the Friars attack in the first half, creating two clear goal-scoring opportunities that were both denied by the UConn goalkeeper.  
• Neto scored for the Friars to take the lead in the 53rd  minute (52:59 minute). Neto delivered a strike on the left side of the box and beat the keeper on the near post to give the Friars a 1-0 lead. It marked his second goal against UConn this season.  
• In the 79th minute (79:40) Lukas Burns (Cinnaminson, N.J.) made a diving save to hold the Friars' lead.  
• UConn's Jack Loura committed a handball inside the box, leading to a Providence penalty kick. Bruno Rosa (Cascais, Portugal) took the penalty kick and beat the keeper with 19 minutes remaining (80:58 minute).  
• Burns made a key save with under four minutes left to play (85:48) to keep the Huskies scoreless.  
• Burns recorded his seventh clean sheet of the season for the Friars.  
• The Friars secured their first-ever postseason win over the Huskies, bringing their all-time record in BIG EAST Championship play against them to 1-1. 
• This will be the second-consecutive year that the Friars have qualified for the BIG EAST Semifinals and will make their 17th all-time appearance. 
• The Friars are now 2-1 all-time as the No. 2-seed in BIG EAST Championship play.  
• The Friars now hold a perfect 6-0 record in BIG EAST Quarterfinal games on Chapey Field and are 9-3 all-time in BIG EAST Championship home games.

UP NEXT 
No. 25 Providence will advance to the BIG EAST Championship Semifinals, to face No. 3-seed St. John's.  
 
The Semifinal will be played at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Md. on Thursday, Nov. 14. The match is scheduled to kick-off at 5:00 p.m. and will stream live on the BIG EAST Digital Network.  
 
This will mark the second-consecutive year that the Friars have qualified for the BIG EAST Semifinals.  
 
The Red Storm lead the all-time series against the Friars with a record of 20-11-6. The teams last met during the regular season on October 19, which ended in a 1-1 draw in Providence, R.I.  
 
The upcoming Semifinal match between the No. 25 Friars and the Johnnies will mark their third meeting in the semis. The Johnnies hold a 2-1 advantage over the Friars in BIG EAST Semifinal matchups. Their last Semifinals clash was in 2019, when the Friars defeated No. 14 St. John's, 2-1, in Queens, N.Y.
