Women's Basketball Defeated At Dayton, 65-61

Grace Efosa netted a game-high 22 points.
DAYTON, OHIO – The Providence College women's basketball team was defeated by Dayton, 65-61, on Thursday, Nov. 21 at UD Arena in Dayton, Ohio. The Friars dropped to 2-3 on the season, while Dayton improved to 4-1. Graduate student Grace Efosa led all scorers with 22 points on 8-10 shooting.
1ST QUARTER:
• Providence hit its first three shots of the game and got out to a 9-4 lead at the first media timeout (4:58).
• Providence extended its lead to 12-4, but Dayton clawed back to within three (14-11).
• A Marta Morales Romero three with 11-seconds left gave the Friars a 17-11 lead at the break.
• Morales Romero was 2-2 from beyond the arc in the first quarter and paced the Friars with six points.
2ND QUARTER:
• Providence pushed its lead to nine (25-16) midway through the second quarter, but a triple by Dayton hit a three to get within 25-19 at the media.
• A 6-0 run during a span of 1:34 gave Providence a 31-19 lead with 2:55 on the clock.
• The Friars shot 48-percent in the first half (12-25) and carried a 32-22 lead into halftime.
• Brynn Farrell led the Friars with nine points, which included a 5-6 performance at the stripe.
• Morales Romero recorded eight points and four assists in the first half.
3RD QUARTER:
• Dayton used an 8-2 scoring spurt to get within four (34-30) and force a Providence timeout at the 6:44 mark.
• Kylee Sheppard hit a three on the Friars' first possession out of the timeout, but the Flyers answered with a 6-0 run to make it a one-point game (37-36) with 4:53 on the clock.
• The Friars answered with a 9-2 run, including six-straight points by Sheppard to get its lead to eight (46-38).
• Dayton scored four unanswered points to close the quarter (48-44).
• Sheppard scored nine points in the quarter on 4-4 shooting and Efosa added seven points on 3-3 shooting.
4TH QUARTER:
• Dayton took its first lead of the game with 5:19 left to play on driving lay-up by Olivia Leung (51-50). The Flyers maintained that lead into the final media timeout (4:58).
• Efosa helped the Friars reclaim the lead with a pull-up jumper and Sophi Hall hit one-of-two free throws on PC's next trip to make it a 53-51 advantage.
• The teams traded leads five times over the next three minutes to find the game tied, 61-61, with 1:08 remaining.
• Both teams failed to score on their next offensive possessions.
• Dayton's Leung was fouled with 26.7 left and made both free throws to give the Flyers a 63-61 lead.
• The Friars called timeout to advance the ball into the front court, but committed a turnover.
• Ivy Wolf converted two free throws on the other end to give the Flyers their largest lead of the night with 17-seconds remaining (65-61).
• Providence was outscored 21-13 in the fourth quarter and did not record a field goal in the final 3:07 of the game.

• Efosa tallied her second 20-point game of the year with a season-high 22 points on 8-10 shooting.

• Farrell completed the game with nine points and Morales Romero chipped in eight.
