Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Teams To Compete At NCAA Northeast Regionals On Nov. 15

The top two teams on the men’s and women’s side will automatically qualify for the 2024 NCAA Championships held in Madison, Wisconsin on November 23.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.– The Providence College men's and women's cross country teams will compete in the NCAA Northeast Regional race on Friday, November 15. The race will be held in Hopkinton, N.H. The women's 6k race will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by the men's 10k race at 12:00 p.m. The top two teams on the men's and women's side will automatically qualify for the 2024 NCAA Championships held in Madison, Wisconsin on November 23. 
 
The Friar women enter the race ranked 11th nationally and first in the Northeast Region. 
 
Leading the way for the women will be graduate student  Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England), senior Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand) and graduate student Alex Millard (Kent, England).  On Friday, November 1st, the Friars finished second out of 11 teams at the BIG EAST Championships. Millard had a second-place finish (19:50.7), followed by May in sixth place (20:00.65), Flockhart in eighth place (20:13.83) and senior student Laura Mooney (Cappincur, Ireland), in 10th place (20.39.97).  
 
Also expected to compete at the Northeast Regionals will be senior Niamh O'Mahony (Kerry, Ireland), junior Cara Laverty (Derry, Ireland), and freshman Anna Gardiner (Downpatrick, Northern Ireland).   
 
The Friar women finished third out of 37 teams last year at the 2023 Northeast Regional race, led by an impressive second-place finish by May (19:37.3). They then earned an at-large berth to the NCAA Championships.  
 
The Friar men's team enters the race ranked sixth in the Northeast Region. 
 
The men's team will be led by senior Michael Morgan (Sligo, Ireland), who had an impressive race at the BIG EAST Championship on Friday, November 1, as he placed seventh (24:02.66). Also leading the Friars will be graduate student Pat Thygesen (Brisbane, Australia), who finished 15th (24:26.30) in the BIG EAST Championship on Friday, November 1. Morgan and Thygesen will be joined by graduate student Liam Back (New Plymouth, England), graduate student Shane Coffey (Naas, Ireland), junior Luke Coffin (Annapolis, Md), freshman Cormac Dixon (Dublin, Ireland), and freshman Liam McCay (Liverpool, England). 
 
At the 2023 Northeast Regionals, the Friar men finished fourth out of 37 teams, led by Morgan with a sixth-place finish (29:51.2).
