Last Time Out vs. Northeastern:
- The Providence College men's ice hockey team closed out their weekend series with Northeastern with a 6-5 overtime win Saturday, November 9 at Matthews Arena in Boston.
- Northeastern opened the scoring 7:42 into the first period by way of a Cam Lund power play goal, putting the Huskies up 1-0.
- The Friars knotted the affair at 1-1 late in the first period following a Logan Will power-play goal. Trevor Connelly and Austen May each tallied an assist.
- Northeastern regained the lead with 16.9 seconds to go in the opening frame off a Joe Connor goal.
- Northeastern's Dylan Hryckowian put the Huskies ahead 3-1 just under four minutes into the second period, ending Zachary Borgiel's night in net as Philip Svedebäck entered the game in relief.
- Following a tripping minor as well as a contact to the head game misconduct and five-minute major penalty call on Northeastern's Nick Rheaume, the Friars were granted seven minutes of power-play time, where freshmen John Mustard and Will Elger each capitalized, knotting the game at 3-3.
- Late in the second period, Northeastern retook the lead on the power-play, as Jack Williams connected at 16:29 to take the 4-3 advantage.
- Trevor Connelly connected early in the third period for his first NCAA goal, tying the match at 4-4. Logan Sawyer and Andrew Centrella provided assists on the scoring play.
- Chase Yoder connected at 8:04 in the third period for his first goal of the season and the Friars' first lead of the game, putting Providence up 5-4.
- With 2:41 to play, Northeastern's Joakim Lemay found the equalizer, knotting the game at 5-5.
- Following a Northeastern penalty in the overtime period, Trevor Connelly skated coast-to-coast before connecting over Cameron Whitehead's blocker-side, winning the game for the Friars 6-5 on the power-play.
 
Scouting the Minutemen:
- RV/No. 20 UMass (4-4-2, 0-1-1 HEA) enters their weekend home-and-home series with the Friars following a pair of games at Vermont that saw the Minutemen tie 3-3 and fall 1-0 in shootout on Friday (Nov. 8) before dropping a 4-0 decision Saturday (Nov. 9).
- Through 10 games this season, forward Aydar Suniev (6-4-10) paces the Minutemen in goals with six, followed by Jack Musa (5-1-6) with five and Cole O'Hara (4-8-12) with four.
- Along with O'Hara, Dans Locmelis (1-8-9) and Kenny Connors (0-8-8) both pace the Minutemen in assists this season with eight each, followed by five from Ryan Lautenbach (1-5-6) and four from Suniev.
- O'Hara leads the Minutemen in total points this season with 12, followed by ten on the season from Suniev and nine from Locmelis. In total, 21 Minutemen have tallied a point this season, including eight players with at least five points.
- In net, the Minutemen have looked to sophomore Michael Hrabal. In ten starts this season, Hrabal has guided the Minutemen to a 4-4-2 record to the tune of a 2.88 goals against average and a .901 save percentage. In conference this season, Hrabal has led UMass to an 0-2-2 start to go along with his 3.27 goals against average and .879 save percentage.
- Through 10 games, the Minutemen have scored 33 goals, which is tied with Bentley, Colgate, UConn, Maine, and North Dakota for the sixth-most nationally this season.
 
Series History vs. UMass (51-38-8, .567)
This weekend's matchup with UMass marks the only matchup between the Friars and Minutemen this season. Since the 2021-22 season, Providence has fought to a 3-7-0 record against UMass, with the most recent result being the Minutemen's 3-1 road win over the Friars in the Hockey East Quarterfinal last season. In that span, the Friars are 1-4-0 at home and 2-3-0 when facing the Minutemen at the Mullins Center in Amherst. Providence's last win over the Minutemen came two seasons ago in a 4-3 overtime road win in Amherst on November 11, 2022.
 
Eight Former Friars Earn Spots On NHL Opening Night Rosters
The Friars boasted eight alums that appeared on NHL opening night rosters - Noel Acciari (PIT), Jacob Bryson (BUF), Vincent Desharnais (VAN), Brandon Duhaime (WSH), Mark Jankowski (NSH), Kevin Rooney (CGY), Brandon Tanev (SEA) and Jake Walman (SJ).
 
Leaman Hits Milestone
Head Coach Nate Leaman earned his 249th career victory at Providence on Nov. 11, 2023, passing Lou Lamoriello as the program's winningest head coach all-time. Last weekend, Leaman hit 400 career wins as a Division I head coach in Providence's 3-2 overtime win at Vermont. Leaman is the only Hockey East coach to post a winning record in each of the last 12 seasons.
 
Leading the Pack:
Through nine games this season, Tanner Adams (5-4-9) and Will Elger (5-3-8) pace the Friars with five scores each, followed by four from Logan Will (4-5-9) and three from Ryan O'Reilly (3-2-5). Andrew Centrella (1-6-7) leads the Friars in assists this season with six, followed by five assists from Will, Trevor Connelly (2-5-7), Logan Sawyer (0-5-5), and Austen May (0-5-5). Adams and Will lead the team in total points this season with nine each, followed by eight points from Elger and seven points from Connelly and Centrella.
 
Special Teams:
Providence has boasted one of the strongest power-plays this season, with the team's 26.9% conversion rate ranking eighth-best nationally. In last weekend's contests with Northeastern, the Friars power-play cashed in on six of their eleven opportunities, highlighted by a five power-play goal performance in Saturday's (Nov. 9) 6-5 overtime win, the team's first five power-play goal game since playing UMass on Nov. 11, 2017.
 
Poisson Among Active Leaders
With an assist last Friday at home against New Hampshire, graduate student Nick Poisson sits one point shy of the century mark in career scoring with 99 points. He aims to become the 55th member of the program to reach the 100-point milestone.
 
Connelly Earns Hockey East Rookie of the Week Honors:
Providence College's Trevor Connelly (Tustin, Calif.) was named Pro Ambitions Hockey East Rookie of the Week on Monday, November 11. Connelly paced the Friars' production last weekend against Northeastern, tallying an assist in Friday's tie before exploding for a two goal, three assist performance in Saturday's 6-5 overtime win.
 
Three is the Magic Number
The Friars are 223-24-25 all-time under Nate Leaman when scoring three or more goals in a game.
 
After 40
The Friars are 199-11-20 all-time under Nate Leaman when holding a lead after two periods.
