Volleyball Defeated By Georgetown

The Friars fell to the Hoyas, 3-1.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College volleyball was defeated by Georgetown in four sets (3-1) on Saturday, Oct. 5. The Friars dropped to 7-8 overall (0-4 BIG EAST), while Georgetown improved to 8-8 (1-3 BIG EAST).
 
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: Georgetown earned a 25-19 victory in the first set.
  • The two teams went back-and-forth to reach a tie score of 8-8.
  • Georgetown took a 16-13 lead, forcing Providence to take a timeout.
  • The Hoyas went on a 4-2 run to extend their lead to 20-15.
  • Georgetown maintained their lead and won the set 25-19.  
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence won the second set, 25-17.
  • The Friars took a quick 6-3 lead to begin the set.
  • The Hoyas went on a 7-3 run to take a 10-9 advantage.
  • Providence responded with a 5-0 run to take a 14-10 lead, forcing Georgetown to call a timeout.
  • The Friars extended their lead to 20-13, on their way to a 25-17 win.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: Georgetown took the third set, 25-13.
  • The Hoyas jumped out to an 8-4 lead.
  • Georgetown extended its lead to 15-9 and forced Providence to take a timeout.
  • The Hoyas maintained their lead throughout the set (25-13).
  • Shaliyah Rhoden recorded nine kills through the first three sets for Providence.
FOURTH SET HIGHLIGHTS: The Hoyas won the fourth set 25-21 and claimed the match 3-1.
  • The Friars got out to a 5-2 lead.
  • Georgetown fought back and to take a 9-8 lead.
  • The Hoyas extended their lead to 17-14, forcing Providence to call a timeout.
  • Georgetown maintained their lead a won the set 25-21.
MATCH NOTES:
  • Rhoden led the Friars' offense with 13 kills.
  • Jiji Lykins recorded 12 digs for Providence.
  • Sophia Adkins led Providence with six aces.
  • Providence recorded 45 kills, 40 digs and 10 aces.

Georgetown: 8-8 (BIG EAST 1-3)
 
WHATS NEXT:  The Friars are on the road next week against Connecticut and Butler. They face the Huskies on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 6:00 p.m. and Butler on Sunday Oct. 13 at 1:00 p.m.
