VILLANOVA, Pa.- The Providence College men's soccer team shut out the Villanova Wildcats (1-9-5, 0-6-1), 1-0, in the team's final road match of the regular season on Oct.26 in Villanova, Pa. The Friars improved to a 9-4-3 overall record including a 4-1-2 mark in BIG EAST play. With the win, Providence secured a playoff berth in the 2024 BIG East Tournament. Graduate student

Lukas Burns (Cinnaminson, N.J.) made two saves on the day and recorded his fifth shutout of the season.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
• The Wildcats were awarded a penalty kick in the 12th minute of play (12:38). Villanova's Jorge Garcia took the shot but it deflected off the post and landed at the feet of a Providence defender.
• The Friars responded a minute later (13:24) when
Pearse O'Brien (West Hartford, Conn.) played a short pass to Neto who launched a long-range shot from outside the box that sailed over the goalkeeper to give Providence a 1-0 lead.
• Villanova found a second half surge. However, the Friars were able to fend off the Wildcats' 12 shots over the final 45 minutes to secure the shutout.
• The Friars have now qualified for 24 BIG EAST tournaments all-time and for the fourth consecutive year.
• Providence is now 19-12-3 all-time against VU.

The Friars will close out regular-season conference play when they host the Xavier Musketeers (4-6-5, 1-3-2 BIG EAST) on Nov. 2. Kick-off will be at 2:00 p.m. on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I. Fans unable to attend can stream the game on the BIG EAST Network.
The Friars hold a 6-4-2 all-time series edge over the Musketeers. The last time the two teams met was in the 2023 season when Xavier defeated Providence, 1-0, in the BIG EAST Tournament Semifinals.
