Providence College Prepares to Host Georgetown and Visit Xavier

The Friars will host Georgetown University in the annual Pink Out game on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 6:00 p.m. and visit No. 20 Xavier University on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 1:00 p.m.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's soccer team is set to visit Georgetown University on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 7:00 p.m. The match will be played on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I. The match will be streamed on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports. The game will mark Providence's annual Pink Out game. The Friars will then visit No. 20 Xavier University on Sunday Oct. 20 at 1:00 p.m. The match will be played on Corcoran Field in Cincinnati, Ohio. The game will be streamed on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports.

SCOUTING THE FRIARS... The Friars enter the week with a 5-6-1 overall record and are 2-2-0 in BIG EAST conference play. Providence posted a 3-4-1 non-conference record to start the season. In BIG EAST play, the Friars have wins over St. John's, 1-0 and Butler, 1-0. Last week, Providence was defeated on the road at Creighton, 1-0. The Friars are currently seventh in the BIG EAST standings with six points.  

  

Graduate student Kacey Lawrence (Monroe, Conn.) leads the Friars' offense with 12 points. Lawrence owns a team-best four goals and four assists.  

Freshman Kristin Middaugh (Lancaster, N.Y.) has scored two goals for the Friars this season.  

Sophomore Kayla Briggs (Toronto, Canada) has scored one goal and contributed one assist in seven games played this season for the Friars.  

Freshman Stephanie Schoeley (Thedford, Ontario), sophomore Marryn Gruhn (Northport, N.Y.) and junior Alanna Coffie (Warwick, R.I.) have each scored one goal for the Friars.  

Goalkeepers Emma Bodmer (Monroe Township, N.J.) and Ellie Thallman (Northville, Mich.) have shared time in net this season. Bodmer has started all 12 games for the Friars logging 705 minutes in net. This season the senior has maintained a 0.714 save percentage. Thallman has appeared in 10 games logging 450 minutes in net for the Friars. The graduate student has logged a 0.783 save percentage this season. The duo has combined for three shutouts this season.  

ELLIE THALLMAN NAMED BIG EAST GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK... Graduate student Ellie Thallman was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week on Sept. 30. Thallman kept two second half clean sheets versus St. John's, 1-0 and Butler, 1-0. The graduate student recorded two saves including a penalty kick save against Butler. 

TWO MEMBERS OF THE FRIARS QUALIFIED FOR THE 2024 FIFA UNDER-20 WORLD CUP… Junior Ella McBride (Peterborough, Canada) and Sophomore Kayla Briggs (Toronto, Canada) qualified for the U-20 FIFA World Cup 2024 and represented Canada's National Team. McBride recorded one goal and two assists on the tournament. Briggs scored two goals and recorded one assist for Canada.  

KAYLA BRIGGS NAMED TO PRESEASON ALL-BIG EAST TEAM... Sophomore Kayla Briggs received preseason recognition as a member of the Preseason ALL-BIG EAST Team. The BIG EAST released its 2024 Preseason Coaches' Poll and preseason honors Tuesday (Aug. 13). 

    

SERIES HISTORY AGAINST GEORGETOWN... The Friars hold a 3-16-6 all-time record against the Hoyas. In their last meeting, the match ended in a 1-1 draw in Washington, D.C. in 2023. 

  

SCOUTING THE HOYAS... Georgetown enters Thursday's contest with an 8-2-4 overall record and holds a 4-1-1 record in BIG EAST play. In their last match, the Hoyas were defeated at Depaul, 1-0.  

Senior forward Maja Lardner leads the Hoyas offense this season with a team best seven goals and four assists. The senior has been named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week twice this season. Senior midfielder Eliza Turner has added six goals this season and was named BIG EAST Offensive player of the Week on Sept. 16.  

Goalkeepers Cara Martin and Anna Karpenko have split time in net this season. Martin has started 13 games logging 720 minutes in goal this season and holds a 0.857 save percentage. The junior was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week last week. Karpenko has tallied 507 minutes in net this season holding a 0.792 save percentage.  

SERIES HISTORY AGAINST XAVIER... The Friars hold a 4-6-2 all-time record against the Musketeers. In their last meeting, the Friars were defeated by Xavier, 2-0 in Boyds, Md. in the 2023 BIG EAST Semifinals.  

SCOUTING THE MUSKETEERS... Xavier enters Sunday's contest with a 12-1-2 overall record and holds a 5-0-1 record in BIG EAST play. The Musketeers are ranked No. 20 nationally. Before facing the Friars, Xavier will visit St. John's on Thursday, Oct. 17. In their last match, the Musketeers defeated Seton Hall, 3-0 in Cincinnati, Ohio. 

Senior midfielder Samantha Wiehe leads the Xavier offense with seven goals and six assists. Junior forward Emma Flick has added six goals and seven assists for the Musketeers. Freshman forward Samantha Erbach has recorded seven goals and four assists this season. The freshman has been named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on four separate occasions this season.  

Junior goalkeeper Maria Galley started all 15 games for Xavier tallying 1,297 minutes in net. The junior holds a save percentage of 0.804 and has been selected Big East Goalkeeper of the Week on two separate occasions in 2024.  

UP NEXT... The Friars will visit Marquette on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 8:00 p.m. (ET). The match will be played on Valley Fields in Milwaukee, Wis. The Golden Eagles currently hold a 4-8-3 overall record and are 1-3-1 in BIG EAST play. Marquette will host Villanova and visit Georgetown before facing Providence.
