The Friars will face UMass on Sept.9 on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium at 7:00PM.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Friars are looking to improve their record on Saturday, Sept. 9 as they host the UMass Minutemen on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium at 7:00 p.m. It will mark the first meeting between the two teams since 1994. The last time the two teams met, UMass earned a 3-0 win on their home field. PC last defeated the Minutemen in 1993 with a 3-0 victory at home. The Friars have posted a 6-10 all-time record versus Massachusetts.

SCOUTING THE FRIARS…
• The Friars are coming off a win against URI on Sept. 4, clinching the victory with 1:06 left in the game on a goal by McSorley assisted by O'Brien.
•McSorley and O'Brien lead the team in points, each totaling four on the season.
•O'Brien earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on Tuesday, Sep. 5, after his goal against Hofstra on Sep 1., and his game-winning assist at URI on Sep. 4.
•Goalkeeper Lukas Burns (Cinnaminson, N.J.) is tied for third in the BIG EAST Conference in saves, and tied for fourth in saves per game.
•McSorley leads the BIG EAST Conference in game-winning goals with two, he is currently second in shots per game (14).
•O'Brien is tied for second in the BIG EAST Conference in assists with two.
•Providence men's soccer was picked to finish second in the East Division in the BIG EAST Preseason Men's Soccer Coaches' Poll, earning one first-place vote and a total of 56 points.
• Graduate midfielder Luis Garcia (Gran Canaria, Spain) and senior forward Gevork Diarbian (Cranston, R.I.) were each named to the Preseason ALL-BIG EAST Team for the second season in a row. Garcia played in 13 games for the Friars with 11 appearances in the starting line-up during the 2022 season, and finished with one goal and four assists. He was named to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men's Players to Watch List for Midfielders as well as the 2022 Hermann Trophy Watch List.
• Diarbian started in all 17 games for the Friars during the 2022 season, and led the team with four goals and five assists. He was named to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men's Players to Watch List for Forwards in 2022 and concluded the season as a member of the ALL-BIG EAST Second Team and selected to the United Soccer Coaches All-East Region Third Team.

SCOUTING THE MINUTEMEN…
•On Sep. 4, UMass shutout Yale 3-0, extending their home unbeaten streak to 14.
•Alec Hughes leads the Atlantic10 Conference in goals with five on the season. He also leads the conference in game-winning goals (four), points (10), and shots on goal (eight).
•Nick Zielonka leads the Atlantic10 Conference in assists with four on the season.
•Goalkeeper Matt Zambetti has recorded two shutouts this season, second highest in the Atlantic10 Conference.
•The Minutemen are currently fifth in the Atlantic10 Men's Soccer Standings.
