Nathan Messer recorded a goal and assist for PC.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College men's soccer team was defeated by Villanova, 4-3, in BIG EAST action on Saturday, Sept. 23 on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. Nathan Messer (London, England), Brendan McSorley (Randolph, N.J), and Pearse O'Brien all scored for the Friars.

GAME FLOW & NOTES 

-Villanova's Marcus Berenes opened the scoring the first minute of the match off a corner kick. 

-Nathan Messer found the equalizer for the Friars in the 11th minute, knotting the score at one. Diego Batista was credited with an assist.  

-Less than four minutes later, Anthony "A.J." Cousins scored the second VU goal to put his team ahead 2-1.  

-Brendan McSorley tied the game at two in the 25th minute, Messer picked up the assist on McSorley's fourth goal of the season. 

-Pearse O'Brien (West Hartford, Conn.) put the Friars ahead, 3-2, in the 68th minute of the match. Jason Pereira marked his first assist of the season.  

-Brenes tallied his second goal of the game in the 76th minute, tying the score at three.  

-Balthi Saunders finalized the match with a goal in the 87th minute, putting the Wildcats up 4-3.

(1-0)-Villanova – 1:46/1st- Brenes found the back of the net off a corner kick.  

(1-1)-Providence-11:03/1st-Messer's header landed inside the far post. 

(2-1)-Villanova-14:42/1st- Cousins shot curled past the PC defense.  

(2-2)-Providence-25:56/1st-McSorley found a one-touch finish off Messer's pass.  

(3-2)-Providence-68:58/2nd-O'Brien's finish found the back of the net.   

(3-3)-Villanova-76:29/2nd- Brenes headed the ball in off the corner of Luke Martelli.

(4-3)-Villanova-87:03/2nd-Saunders found the back of the net off a low shot near the six.
