Friars Will Host Villanova To Open BIG EAST Play At Home

This will be the second BIG EAST Conference match-up for the Friars and first at home.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- On Saturday, Sept. 23, the Friars will return to Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium to host the Villanova Wildcats. PC and Villanova have played to a tie each of the last two seasons (1-1 in 2022, and 2-2 in 2021).  PC men's soccer is looking to improve its unbeaten streak to three after tying No.3 Akron on Sept. 15 and Brown Sept. 19 on the road.

SCOUTING THE FRIARS
• On Sept. 19, the Friars tied Brown 1-1, in an Ocean State matchup at Brown.
• Providence is currently ranked third in the BIG EAST East Division standings, trailing two points behind to UCONN and Georgetown.
• Freshman Pearse O'Brien (West Hartford, Conn.) is tied for first in the BIG EAST Conference in assists (four).
Brendan McSorley (Randolph, N.J.) is tied for third in the BIG EAST in game-winning goals (two).
• McSorley and Pearse lead the team in points, each totaling six on the season.
• On Sept. 18, senior forward Gevork Diarbian (Cranston, R.I.) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll following his goal in 31st minute against No.3 Akron on Sept. 15. Earlier this season, Diarbian was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team for the second consecutive season.
• Goalkeeper Lukas Burns currently has 20 saves in seven games for the Friars.

• Goalkeeper Kent Dickey is currently ranked fifth in the BIG EAST in saves per game (16).
• Vicent Petrera and Saunders lead the team in points (five), each totaling two goals and one assist on the season.
