Nathan Messer and Pearse O’Brien score their first goals as Friars.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College men's soccer team fell to Hofstra University, 4-2, on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium on Friday, Sept. 1. Freshman Pearse O'Brien (West Hartford, Conn.), and graduate Nathan Messer (London, England) scored their first goals as Friars.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
-Hofstra scored in the first minute of the game with goal by Teddy Baker from a shot at the top of the box.
- Cole Dewhurst (Lancaster, Mass.) cleared the ball off the goal line goal following a break away play from Hofstra in the 13th minute to keep the score at 1-0.
- The Friars fell to a 2-0 deficit after Albert Kang's header found the back of the net in the 21st minute.
-Diego Batista's shot in the 26th minute hit off the crossbar, almost putting the Friars on the board.
-Freshman Pearse O'Brien scored the first goal for the Friars in the 34th minute. Graduate Miguel Candela recorded his first assist of the season.
-Diego Batista recorded four shots in the first half for the Friars.
-Nathan Messer (London, England) scored the equalizer for the Friars in the 47th minute off a cross from Brendan McSorley.
-Hofstra took back the lead after an own goal in the 48th minute.
-Lukas Burns (Cinnaminson, N.J.) made a key one-on-one save for the Friars in the 78th minute.
-Hofstra pulled away in the 85th minute with a goal from Ryan Carmichael.
