The Friars kick off the weekend slate against Hofstra on September 1 on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium at 7 p.m.
PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College men's soccer team is set to host Hofstra University on Friday, Sep. 1 at 7:00PM. On Monday, Sep.4, the Friars will face URI on the road.

SCOUTING THE FRIARS…
• Providence holds a 1-1-0 record with a 2-0 loss to #1 Syracuse and a 2-0 win against Merrimack.
• Senior forward Brendan McSorley (Randolph, N.J.) scored the first goal of the season for the team and totaled seven shots over the two games.
• Senior goalkeeper Lukas Burns (Cinnaminson, N.J) recorded his first shutout of the season and the 12th of his career.
• Providence men's soccer was picked to finish second in the East Division of the BIG EAST Preseason Men's Soccer Coaches' Poll, earning one first-place vote and a total of 56 points.
• Graduate midfielder Luis Garcia (Gran Canaria, Spain) and senior forward Gevork Diarbian (Cranston, R.I.) were each named to the Preseason ALL-BIG EAST Team for the second season in a row. Garcia played in 13 games for the Friars with 11 appearances in the starting line-up during the 2022 season, and finished with one goal and four assists. He was named to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men's Players to Watch List for Midfielders as well as the 2022 Hermann Trophy Watch List.
• Diarbian started in all 17 games for the Friars during the 2022 season, and led the team with four goals and five assists. He was named to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men's Players to Watch List for Forwards in 2022 and concluded the season as a member of the ALL-BIG EAST Second Team and selected to the United Soccer Coaches All-East Region Third Team.
• The Friars have played Hofstra only two twice all-time, both in NCAA Tournament games. In 2005, Providence defeated Hofstra 1-0 OT in the first round. Later in 2006, the Friars lost to Hofstra 2-0 in the first round.

• Hofstra men's soccer is currently 1-1 overall in its 2023 season. On Thursday, Aug. 24, Hofstra defeated Marist College, 1-0, with a goal by Ryan Carmichael in the 58th minute.
• Goalkeeper Wessel Speel was selected the Coastal Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week after his three second-half saves against the Red Foxes.
• On Monday, Aug. 28, Hofstra fell, 1-0, to Farleigh Dickinson on the road. Carmichael recorded four shots in the game.
• Eliot Goldthorp and Carmichael were named to the 2023 MAC Hermann Watch List, also ranking 12th and 14th respectively, in the Top Drawer Soccer Preseason Top 100.
• Goldthorp, Carmichael and Speel received Preseason ALL-CAA Team honors.
• Goldthorp was named as the CAA Preseason Player of the Year.
• Hofstra was picked as the CAA's preseason favorite, projected to win three consecutive conference titles.
•Last season, Hofstra upset Elon 2-1, to win the CAA Championship game for the second consecutive season, and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament; the team's seventh appearance. Hofstra lost in the first round to South Florida.

SCOUTING THE RAMS…
• URI started off its 2023 season with a 2-0-1 record. On Aug. 24, the Rams tied Quinnipiac 0-0, in their season opener. They defeated Stonehill, 3-0, on Aug.27.
• Goalkeepers Edu Rodriguez and Nate DiLoreto have not yet surrendered a goal this season and have combined for five saves.
• Junior forward Íñigo Etxegarai leads the team with three points and one goal.

The Friars will host UMass on Saturday, Sep. 9 at 7:00 p.m. on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium before traveling to Akron open BIG EAST play.
