Men’s Soccer Shuts Out Merrimack, 2-0, In Home Opener

Bruno Rosa and Brendan McSorley scored their first goals of the season.
PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College men's soccer team defeated Merrimack, 2-0, on Sunday, Aug. 27 during their home-opener on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. Sophomore Bruno Rosa (Cascais, Portugal) and Senior Brendan McSorley (Randolph, N.J.) scored their first goals of the season.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
-Providence took an early lead with a goal in the third minute by Brendan McSorley.
-The Friars nearly took a 2-0 lead when McSorley's shot hit the crossbar in the 18th minute.
-McSorley nearly struck again with a close call in the 72nd minute.
-The Friars sealed the victory with a goal from Bruno Rosa in the 82nd minute on an assist from freshman Pearse O'Brien (West Hartford, Conn.), who earned his first collegiate point.
-Lukas Burns (Cinnaminson, N.J.) earned his first shutout of the season and 12th of his career after making two saves.
