PROVIDENCE R.I. – Providence College men's soccer is set to travel to top-ranked Syracuse University for the season opener on Thursday, Aug. 24. The Friars will return home on Sunday, Aug. 27 to host Merrimack College on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I. for the home opener.

FRIARS IN 2022… Providence finished the 2022 season with a 5-5-7 overall record, including a 5-2-3 run in the BIG EAST Conference. The Friars qualified for their 21
st BIG EAST Tournament, falling to Butler in the first round.
SCOUTING THE FRIARS… The Friars have 17 players returning for the 2023 season including
Gevork Diarbian,
Brendan McSorley,
Cole Dewhurst,
Miguel Candela,
Luis Garcia, and
Lukas Burns. Diarbian was the top scorer for the 2022 season, marking four goals and five assists overall and taking All-BIG EAST Second Team honors. Burns played a total of 11 games for the Friars, recording four shutouts and ending the season with a save percentage of .702. He was awarded BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week (Oct. 3).
BIG EAST PRESEASON ACCOLADES… Providence men's soccer was voted to finish second in the East Division of the BIG EAST Preseason Men's Soccer Coaches' Poll, earning one first-place vote and a total of 56 points overall.

Gevork Diarbian were each named to the Preseason ALL-BIG EAST Team for the second season in a row.
NEWCOMERS… The Friars have added nine incoming freshmen and seven transfers for the upcoming season. The freshmen include

SCOUTING THE ORANGE
The Syracuse men's soccer team comes into the 2023 season as defending champions after winning the 2022 NCAA National Championship title, the program's first. Last season, the Orange recorded a school record of 19 wins, winning the ACC Championship, and finishing with an impressive 19-2-4 record overall. Syracuse is currently ranked number one on the United Soccer Coaches National Preseason Poll.
SYRACUSE TIES…Associate Head Coach
John Mark Andrade was a four-year starter for Syracuse. He earned All-BIG EAST accolades in 2000 and 2001 and All-Northeast Region honors in those same years. In addition, he served as team captain in 2001 and was named team MVP in 2000-01. Andrade graduated from Syracuse with a degree in Consumer Studies in 2002.

SCOUTING THE WARRIORS
Merrimack ended their 2022 season with an 8-6-3 overall record including a 5-2-1 conference record. The Warriors finished second in the Northeast Conference, ending their season with a loss to St. Francis Brooklyn in the semifinals.
