Last Time Out...vs. Boston University
- Drew Commesso stopped all 39 shots he faced as No. 7 Boston University earned a 2-0 shutout win over the Providence College men's hockey team on Saturday night (March 4) at Schneider Arena in the regular season finale.
- The Friars held the momentum for a majority of the first period, outshooting the Terriers by a 15-5 margin.
- Austen Roden got tested early as he went post-to-post to rob Nick Zabaneh on a 2-on-1 in the opening minutes.
- It was Boston University that struck first as Jamie Armstrong finished off a rebound off the end boards at 18:26 of the period.
- The teams battled through a scoreless second period but tensions began to mount as the teams combined for 22 penalty minutes in the middle frame.
- Sam Stevens gave the Terriers an insurance goal 3:36 into the third period to put BU up 2-0.

Hockey East Tournament Notes
- Providence is 43-53-1all-time in the Hockey East Tournament with two titles (1985, 1996).
- The Friars and Wildcats will meet for the 12th time in the postseason (21 games) and for the first time since the 2015 Hockey East Quarterfinals where UNH won the best-of-three series, 2-1.
- Providence is 3-0 all-time in the opening round - sweeping a best-of-three series over UMass in 2017 and winning a single elimination game against Vermont in 2022.
- Against the Wildcats in the postseason, the Friars are 7-14. Providence is 7-11 in the quarterfinal round and 0-3 in the semifinals. The teams have never met in the opening round.

Series History vs. New Hampshire (PC trails 68-93-16, .429)
After a six-game unbeaten streak throughout the month of February, UNH dropped their final two regular season games with a 6-1 loss at UConn and a 3-2 loss at home to Vermont. The teams were 1-1-1 against each other this season, with the Friars holding the edge after earning a shootout win at the Whittemore Center on Oct. 28. Providence won the following night, 3-1, before the Wildcats earned a 2-0 win at Schneider Arena on Jan. 6. Overall, Providence is 6-3-1 in the last 10 meetings with the Wildcats.

Parker Ford and Max Crozier Named Hobey Baker Nominees
Providence College senior co-captains
Max Crozier (Calgary, Alta.) and
Parker Ford (Wakefield, R.I.) were named nominees for the 2023 Hobey Baker Award on Thursday (Jan. 19). Crozier is third on the team in scoring with 23 points and leads all Friars with 20 assists. The 20 assists rank 10th overall among all Hockey East players and fourth among defensemen. Crozier also boasts a +8 rating and has blocked a team-high 54 shots this season. Ford leads all Friars in scoring with 25 points on 11 goals and 14 assists. His +17 rating ranks sixth in Hockey East. Ford also ranks seventh among NCAA players in faceoff wins with 424 while his overall faceoff success rate this season is 59.1%. Ford was also named one of 25 semifinalists for the 71st Walter Brown Award, presented annually to the best American-born college hockey player in New England.

With three shorthanded goals during the weekend of Dec. 30-31, the Friars now rank sixth in the NCAA in that category with six shorties this season - four behind leader Ohio State (10).

Crozier and Ford Named Captains; McDonald Added To Leadership Group

Max Crozier and
Parker Ford as the team's co-captains for the 2022-23 season. Both players were alternate captains last season. Prior to last Friday's game at Boston College, senior defenseman
Cam McDonald was named an alternate captain.

Providence ices the sixth youngest roster in the NCAA with an average age of 21.1 years and has a combined 16 first and second year players out of a 29-player roster.

Desharnais Makes NHL Debut With Edmonton; Stauber With Chicago
Former Friar Vincent Desharnais '19 made his NHL debut with the Edmonton Oilers on Jan. 11 in Anaheim. Through 20 games, he has four assists with a +9 rating.
Jaxson Stauber stopped 29-of-32 shots he faced and earned the win in his NHL debut in St. Louis on Jan. 21. He's the fourth goaltender is Friar history to play in the NHL and the 45th overall player. Stauber was the first Blackhawks goaltender in team history to win his first three starts in the NHL after a 4-3 OT win over Arizona on Feb. 10. He's 5-1 with a 2.88 GAA and .911 save percentage in six NHL games.

Friars at the World Junior Championships
Freshman
Jaroslav Chmelar made his second appearance in the World Junior Championships with Czechia. Through seven games, Chmelar posted three goals and two assists with a +8 rating and earned a silver medal after Czechia was defeated in overtime by Canada, 3-2, in the gold medal game.
