Last Time Out...vs. New Hampshire
- Senior Jamie Engelbert scored 1:41 into the first overtime period as the No. 7 seed Providence College men's hockey team advanced to the Hockey East Quarterfinals with a 2-1 victory over No. 10 seed New Hampshire on Wednesday night (March 8) at Schneider Arena.
- A good pace to begin the game as both teams generated some quality offensive chances in the opening minutes of the contest.
- The Friars scored the period's lone goal as Craig Needham finished off Max Crozier's rebound off a faceoff win to put Providence up 1-0. It was Needham's fifth goal of the season and third against the Wildcats in four games.
- UNH responded early in the second period to tie the game at 1-1 on Conor Lovett's goal at the 3:09 mark.
- Providence controlled play throughout the third period and into overtime. The Friars attempted 75 shots with 31 being blocked.
- Just 1:41 into the overtime period, Patrick Moynihan gained the UNH blue line and fired a shot towards the net that Engelbert re-directed for his fifth goal of the season.
 
Hockey East Tournament Notes
- Providence is 44-53-1 all-time in the Hockey East Tournament with two titles (1985, 1996).
- Saturday marks the first quarterfinal meeting between Providence and Northeastern since 1994, which was the only time the Friars have played Hockey East Tournament games at Matthews Arena. The teams also met in the 1989 consolation game, where the Friars earned a 3-2 win.
- Overall, the Friars are 4-2 all-time in postseason play against Northeastern and 2-2 in the quarterfinal round. The teams last playoff meeting was at TD Garden in the 2018 Hockey East Semifinals where the Friars advanced to the title game with a 3-2 overtime win.
- Providence is 32-37-1 all-time in the quarterfinal round
- Nate Leaman has now appeared in the quarterfinal round in all 12 seasons as head coach at Providence.
- This season marks the sixth time the Friars will be the No. 7 seed in the Hockey East Tournament. Providence is 5-9 all-time in tournament games as the No. 7 seed.
- Providence aims for its 18th appearance in the semifinals and seventh under Nate Leaman. The team last appeared in the semifinal round in 2021.
 
Series History vs. Northeastern (PC leads 91-58-21, .597)
The Huskies have alternated wins and losses over the past five outings, most recently earning a 7-3 win over UMass Lowell back on March 4. Providence won the season series against Northeastern, 1-0-1, after a 2-1 win at Matthews Arena on Oct. 15 and a 3-3 tie at Schneider Arena on Feb. 10. Over two games this season, the Friars have recorded 108 shots on goal, eclipsing 50 shots in both games. Hockey East Goaltender of the Year Devon Levi has stopped 103-of-108 shots faced against Providence this season (.954).
 
Parker Ford and Max Crozier Named Hockey East Third Team All-Stars
Providence College senior co-captains Max Crozier (Calgary, Alta.) and Parker Ford (Wakefield, R.I.) were named Hockey East Third Team All-Stars on Friday (March 10) as Hockey East unveiled its 2022-23 All-Star Teams. Crozier earns Third Team All-Star recognition for the second-consecutive season after posting a career-high in points this season with 24 on three goals and 21 assists. The 24 points were tied for fourth among all Hockey East defensemen this season. Crozier was a two-time Hockey East Defender of the Week selection and is currently a +9 rating with a team-high 56 blocked shots.
Ford earns his first career all-star recognition after leading the Friars in scoring this season with 25 points on 11 goals and 14 assists. The senior currently sits with a +17 rating and 433 wins at the faceoff dot, good for a 59.2% win percentage. Ford was also a runner-up for the Gladiator Custom Mouthguards Best Defensive Forward Award and the Len Ceglarski Sportsmanship Award.
 
Eighteen Current, Former and Future Friars Appear in NHL Development Camps
The Friars boasted 18 past, present and future players that appeared in NHL Development Camps back in July. Shorthanded Success
With three shorthanded goals during the weekend of Dec. 30-31, the Friars now rank sixth in the NCAA in that category with six shorties this season - four behind leader Ohio State (10).
 
Crozier and Ford Named Captains; McDonald Added To Leadership Group
The Friars anointed seniors Max Crozier and Parker Ford as the team's co-captains for the 2022-23 season. Both players were alternate captains last season. Prior to last Friday's game at Boston College, senior defenseman Cam McDonald was named an alternate captain.
 
Seniors Shine Against UNH
Seniors accounted for both goals the Friars scored against UNH on Wednesday night - Craig Needham registered a goal and an assist, Jamie Engelbert scored the game-winning goal in overtime, while Patrick Moynihan and Max Crozier also earned assists.
 
Young Bucks
Providence ices the sixth youngest roster in the NCAA with an average age of 21.1 years and has a combined 16 first and second year players out of a 29-player roster.
 
Desharnais Makes NHL Debut With Edmonton; Stauber With Chicago
Former Friar Vincent Desharnais '19 made his NHL debut with the Edmonton Oilers on Jan. 11 in Anaheim. Through 20 games, he has four assists with a +9 rating. Jaxson Stauber stopped 29-of-32 shots he faced and earned the win in his NHL debut in St. Louis on Jan. 21. He's the fourth goaltender is Friar history to play in the NHL and the 45th overall player. Stauber was the first Blackhawks goaltender in team history to win his first three starts in the NHL after a 4-3 OT win over Arizona on Feb. 10. He's 5-1 with a 2.88 GAA and .911 save percentage in six NHL games.
 
Friars at the World Junior Championships
Freshman Jaroslav Chmelar made his second appearance in the World Junior Championships with Czechia. Through seven games, Chmelar posted three goals and two assists  with a +8 rating and earned a silver medal after Czechia was defeated in overtime by Canada, 3-2, in the gold medal game.
 
Three is the Magic Number
The Friars are 204-21-23 all-time under Nate Leaman when scoring three or more goals in a game.
 
After 40
The Friars are 185-7-19 all-time under Nate Leaman when holding a lead after two periods.
