Last Time Out...At Vermont
- Senior co-captain
Max Crozier registered a goal and two assists as the Providence College men's hockey team snapped a five-game losing streak with a 3-1 win on the road at Vermont on Sunday afternoon (Feb. 5).
- The Friars came out flying in the opening minutes, appearing to take a 1-0 lead when
Brett Berard finished off a rebound chance but for the second-consecutive game, their opening goal was disallowed due to an offsides challenge.
- Providence did get on the board at the 7:58 mark as
Jamie Engelbert got a piece off a
Max Crozier shot that banked off the skate of
Riley Duran. The goal was Engelbert's fourth of the season.

Bennett Schimek extended the lead to 2-0 at 17:55 as his wrist shot from the point found its way through traffic and under the arm of Autio for his eighth goal of the season.
- A 5-on-3 opportunity led to a Vermont marker from Simon Jellus at 11:00 of the second period.
- The Friars kept the Catamounts at bay in the third period, keyed by a crucial penalty kill in the early stages of the period.
- Providence earned a late power play and extended its lead to 3-1 on Crozier's third goal of the season and third point on the afternoon.
Taige Harding and Duran earned the assists on the play.
- Autio was pulled for the extra attacker with just over two minutes to play and the Friar defense and Svedebäck stood tall to close out the 3-1 victory.
- Two of Crozier's three goals this season have come against Vermont. He now ranks second on the team in scoring with 22 points on three goals and 19 assists.
- Duran posted his sixth multi-point game of the season with two assists.
- Providence sweeps the three-game regular-season series, outscoring the Catamounts by a 11-4 margin.
Parker Ford and Max Crozier Named Hobey Baker Nominees

Max Crozier (Calgary, Alta.) and
Parker Ford (Wakefield, R.I.) were named nominees for the 2023 Hobey Baker Award on Thursday (Jan. 19). Crozier is tied for second on the team in scoring with 22 points and leads all Friars with 19 assists. The 19 assists rank sixth overall among all Hockey East players and are a single-season career-high for the senior. Crozier also boasts a +12 rating and has blocked a team-high 49 shots this season. Ford leads all Friars in scoring with 23 points on 10 goals and 13 assists, which is good for fifth among all Hockey East players. His +20 rating leads Hockey East and is tied for eighth nationally in that category. Ford also ranks second among NCAA players in faceoff wins with 376 and will matchup against NCAA leader Justin Hryckowian (379) on Friday. His overall faceoff success rate this season is 59.9%. Ford was also named one of 25 semifinalists for the 71st Walter Brown Award, presented annually to the best American-born college hockey player in New England.

Shorthanded Success
With three shorthanded goals during the weekend of Dec. 30-31, the Friars now rank third in the NCAA in that category with six shorties this season - three behind leader Ohio State (9).
Crozier and Ford Named Captains; McDonald Added To Leadership Group

Parker Ford as the team's co-captains for the 2022-23 season. Both players were alternate captains last season. Prior to last Friday's game at Boston College, senior defenseman
Cam McDonald was named an alternate captain.
Crozier Earns Army ROTC Co-Defender of the Week Accolades

Max Crozier was named Hockey East Army ROTC Co-Defender of the Week on Monday (Feb. 6) for the second time this season.
Crozier posted three points over the weekend, with all three points coming in Sunday afternoon's 3-1 victory at Vermont. He assisted on the Friars' first two goals of the contest, before adding an insurance goal late in regulation on the power play. He also finished the weekend with a +2 rating and five blocked shots

Providence ices the sixth youngest roster in the NCAA with an average age of 21.1 years and has a combined 16 first and second year players out of a 29-player roster.
Desharnais Makes NHL Debut With Edmonton; Stauber With Chicago
Former Friar Vincent Desharnais '19 made his NHL debut with the Edmonton Oilers on Jan. 11 in Anaheim. Through nine games, he has four assists with a +7 rating. Stauber stopped 29-of-32 shots he faced and earned the win in his NHL debut in St. Louis on Jan. 21. He's the fourth goaltender is Friar history to play in the NHL and the 45th overall player. Stauber was just the second Blackhawks goaltender to win his first two starts since 1971 after stopping 34-of-35 in a win at Calgary on Jan. 26.
Friars at the World Junior Championships
Freshman
Jaroslav Chmelar made his second appearance in the World Junior Championships with Czechia. Through seven games, Chmelar posted three goals and two assists with a +8 rating and earned a silver medal after Czechia was defeated in overtime by Canada, 3-2, in the gold medal game.

Series History vs. Northeastern (PC leads 91-58-20, .598)
The Friars and Huskies meet for the first time since Oct. 13 as they complete the season series on Friday night at Schneider Arena. Goals from
Riley Duran and
Patrick Moynihan guided the Friars to a 2-1 win at Matthews Arena back in October. Providence snapped a three-game winless streak against the Huskies with that October win. The Huskies are coming off a 3-1 win over No. 3 Boston University in the opening round of the Beanpot on Monday. Northeastern is winners of six of their last seven games.
