Last Time Out...vs. Northeastern
- No. 20/17 Northeastern rallied from a 3-0 deficit in the third period to force a 3-3 tie with the Providence College men's hockey team on Friday night (Feb. 10) at Schneider Arena.
- The Friars controlled the pace of play in the first period, outshooting the Huskies by an 18-4 margin.
- The power play struck at the 19:23 mark as
Bennett Schimek buried his ninth goal of the year just under the crossbar off a centering pass from
Jaroslav Chmelar.
- A strong penalty kill in the second period gave way to more momentum as
Chase Yoder rifled a wrist shot over the blocker of Levi on a 3-on-0 rush by the Friars at 6:30 of the second period.
- The Friars couldn't extend their lead after an early 5-on-3 advantage in the third.
- Providence did get their third goal at 10:12 of the period as Chmelar stuffed home a rebound after
Bennett Schimek forced Levi into a turnover.
- Matt Choupani got the Huskies on the board a minute later to make it a 3-1 game.
- The Friars'
Max Crozier was given a five-minute major and game misconduct a minute after that and Aidan McDonough cashed in on the power play to make a 3-2 game.
- Choupani tied the game at 3-3 during a 4-on-4 sequence with 3:31 to play.
- Svedebäck made five stops in the overtime frame including a clean breakaway attempt by Justin Hryckowian.
- McDonough scored the lone goal in the shootout as Levi denied

- Providence landed 108 shots on goal over two games against Northeastern this season.

Parker Ford and Max Crozier Named Hobey Baker Nominees
Providence College senior co-captains
Max Crozier (Calgary, Alta.) and
Parker Ford (Wakefield, R.I.) were named nominees for the 2023 Hobey Baker Award on Thursday (Jan. 19). Crozier is tied for second on the team in scoring with 22 points and leads all Friars with 19 assists. The 19 assists rank sixth overall among all Hockey East players and are a single-season career-high for the senior. Crozier also boasts a +11 rating and has blocked a team-high 51 shots this season. Ford leads all Friars in scoring with 23 points on 10 goals and 13 assists. His +20 rating leads Hockey East and is tied for 10th nationally in that category. Ford also ranks second among NCAA players in faceoff wins with 385 while his overall faceoff success rate this season is 59.8%. Ford was also named one of 25 semifinalists for the 71st Walter Brown Award, presented annually to the best American-born college hockey player in New England.

Shorthanded Success
With three shorthanded goals during the weekend of Dec. 30-31, the Friars now rank fourth in the NCAA in that category with six shorties this season - three behind leader Ohio State (9).

Crozier and Ford Named Captains; McDonald Added To Leadership Group
The Friars anointed seniors
Max Crozier and
Parker Ford as the team's co-captains for the 2022-23 season. Both players were alternate captains last season. Prior to last Friday's game at Boston College, senior defenseman
Cam McDonald was named an alternate captain.

Over their last four outings, the Friar have outshot opponents by a 191-97 margin, an average margin of 48-24 shots each game. Providence is second in the NCAA, averaging 36.4 shots on goal per game.

Providence ices the sixth youngest roster in the NCAA with an average age of 21.1 years and has a combined 16 first and second year players out of a 29-player roster.

Desharnais Makes NHL Debut With Edmonton; Stauber With Chicago
Former Friar Vincent Desharnais '19 made his NHL debut with the Edmonton Oilers on Jan. 11 in Anaheim. Through 12 games, he has four assists with a +9 rating.
Jaxson Stauber stopped 29-of-32 shots he faced and earned the win in his NHL debut in St. Louis on Jan. 21. He's the fourth goaltender is Friar history to play in the NHL and the 45th overall player. Stauber was the first Blackhawks goaltender in team history to win his first three starts in the NHL after a 4-3 OT win over Arizona on Feb. 10.

Friars at the World Junior Championships
Freshman
Jaroslav Chmelar made his second appearance in the World Junior Championships with Czechia. Through seven games, Chmelar posted three goals and two assists with a +8 rating and earned a silver medal after Czechia was defeated in overtime by Canada, 3-2, in the gold medal game.

Series History vs. UMass Lowell (PC leads 63-50-11, .552)
The Friars and River Hawks meet for the first time since the same February weekend last season where the home teams each claimed 3-2 victories to split the series. The Friars have boasted recent success in the series, winning nine of the last 12 meetings and have won five of six at Tsongas Center dating back to 2017. The River Hawks are winless in their last three outings (0-1-2) but have earned shootout victories in both of those ties.
