Women's Hoops Falls To Butler In BIG EAST Play, 63-62

Efosa, Farrell and Crooms each scored 13 points.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Butler, 63-62, in BIG EAST action at Alumni Hall on Saturday, Feb. 11. Providence evened their record on the season at 13-13 (4-11 BIG EAST), while Butler improved to 8-17 (3-13 BIG EAST).
1ST QUARTER:
• Butler opened the game with back-to-back threes in the first minute of action.
• Brynn Farrell cut the deficit in half with a triple of her own at the 8:34 mark, sparking a 5-0 run for the Friars (6-5).
• The Bulldogs held a 9-8 lead at the media (4:04).
• A 7-0 run by the Friars produced a 12-9 lead at the 2:23 mark.
• Providence outscored Butler 11-4 during the final 4:32 of the quarter to gain a 16-13 lead at the intermission.
2ND QUARTER:
• A 10-3 run helped Butler regain the lead with 4:22 remaining in the second quarter, but Providence's Grace Efosa converted a pull-up jumper on the Friars' next possession to take it right back (26-25).
• Efosa scored five-straight points for Providence to give the Friars a 33-29 edge with 1:30 on the clock.
• Anna Mortag hit the Bulldog's fifth three-point bucket of the game to close the half
• Providence held a one-point lead at the break (33-32).
• Efosa netted seven of her nine points in the second quarter to lead all scorers.
3RD QUARTER:
• A 9-0 run during a span of 3:08 put the Friars ahead 44-36 and forced a Butler timeout (5:21).
• Farrell scored five points in the run, increasing her total to a game-high 13.
• Rachel McLimore helped Butler trim the deficit to 44-42 with back-to-back threes at the 3:42 mark.
• Janai Crooms scored the Friars final four points of the quarter, including a bucket with 2-seconds left to give Providence a 51-48 lead heading into the final 10 minutes.
4TH QUARTER:
• Butler struck first in the final frame with a three-point bucket to tie the game, 51-51.
• Mortag hit another three for Butler as part of a 5-0 run to give the Bulldogs a 56-53 advantage.
• The score remained unchanged (56-53) at the final media timeout (4:25).
• Butler scored out of the break to extend its run to 7-0, but Kylee Sheppard answered for the Friars on the offensive end (58-55).
• Jordan Meulemans drilled a three for Butler to match the Bulldogs' largest lead of the game (61-55).
• The Friars forced a turnover with 1:10 remaining in regulation, trailing 63-59.
• Olivia Olsen converted a traditional three-point play on the Friars' next possession to cut the deficit to one (63-62) with 59-seconds left.
• After a Butler timeout, Olsen hauled in a critical defensive board off a Meulemans' miss from three. Providence called timeout to advance the ball with 30 seconds left in regulation, trailing 63-62.
• The Friars called timeout, once again, with 19.1-seconds left, but Sheppard's three from the right wing to win went half way down and rimmed out.
