PROVIDENCE, R.I. –The Providence College women's hockey team will close out the 2023 year on the road against New Hampshire and Boston University. On Friday, Dec. 8, the Friars will travel to Durham, N.H. to face New Hampshire at 6:00 p.m. Providence will then travel to Boston, Mass. for a 3:00 p.m. puck drop against Boston University on Saturday, Dec. 9.
Scouting The Friars
The Friars are currently 5-11-1 and 4-7-1 in Hockey East play. Last weekend, the Friars hosted Boston College and Boston University at Schneider Arena. On Friday, Dec. 1, Providence lost to Boston College, 5-1. The following day, the Friars tied Boston University, 3-3. Providence earned an extra Hockey East point for winning the shootout, 3-2.
Hope Walinski (Lincoln, R..) recorded 20 saves on Friday against Boston College.
Grace Shirley (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) scored the lone goal for the Friars with
Cristina Cavaliere (Mississauga, Ontario) and
Brooke Becker (Orchard Park, N.Y.) assisting.
Audrey Knapp (Stevens Point, Wis.),
Maddy Coene (Clayton, N.Y.) and
Grace Shirley were the goal scorers against Boston University.
Hannah Johnson (Readfield, Maine) led the Friars in points with two assists. The Friars and Terriers skated through overtime scoreless to go into a shootout. The shootout lasted 10 rounds, the longest in league history, before
Kayla Kutes (Kirkland, Wa.) secured the extra Hockey East point for Providence.
Mireille Kingsley (Sudbury, Ontario) finished the day with 23 saves.
Hockey East Preseason Poll
The Friars were picked to finish third in the Hockey East Preseason Poll, which was released on Tuesday, Sept. 12. The Friars, who received 74 points, were picked to finish behind Northeastern (88) and Vermont (75). The Huskies, who won the 2023 Hockey East Tournament, received eight first place votes.
Rounding out the poll was UConn (65), Boston University (59), Boston College (58), Maine (38), New Hampshire (35), Merrimack (28) and Holy Cross (20).
Fresh Friar Faces
Providence welcomes nine new players (two transfers and six freshmen) to the roster for the 2023-24 season.
Grace Shirley (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) is a graduate student from University of Wisconsin and

Hockey East Award Winners
Audrey Knapp was named Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week as announced on Oct. 23 for scoring three goals in two games.
Knapp earned Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week on Nov. 27 for scoring the lone goal and game-winner against Brown University.
Scouting the Wildcats
The Wildcats enter the Friday night matchup at 9-7-1 (6-5-1 HEAW). This past weekend, New Hampshire shutout Holy Cross 1-0 on Friday, Dec. 1, and shutout Vermont 1-0 on
Saturday, Dec. 2.
Who to Watch
Kira Juodikis leads the Wildcats with eight goals and seven assists for 15 points. Kyla Brent and Marina Alvarez have also recorded seven assists.
Goaltender Blair Sedona has started between the pipes in every game. Sedona has recorded 417 saves this season for a .921 save percentage and a 2.13 GAA.
All-Time Series with the Wildcats
New Hampshire currently leads the all-time series record against Providence 92-67-14. The Friars split their last weekend matchup against the Wildcats, losing 3-1 on Nov. 3 then winning 1-0 on Nov. 4.
Scouting the Terriers
Boston University enters Saturday's game at 6-8-2 (4-6-1 HEW). Before tying the Friars on Saturday, Dec. 2, the Terriers lost to the Northeastern 2-1 in overtime on Dec. 1.
Who to Watch
Lacy Martin leads the Terriers with 16 points consisting of seven goals and nine assists. Catherine Foulem and Clara Yuh follow with nine points each.
Goaltenders Alexa Mates and Mari Pietersen have split time between the pipes this season. Mates has recorded 218 saves this season for a .897 save percentage and a 2.60 GAA in 11 games played. Pietersen has tallied 108 saves for a .844 save percentage and a 3.12 GAA in eight games played.
