TEMPE, Ariz. – Jamie Engelbert and Riley Duran scored second period goals as the No. 9 Providence College men's hockey team outlasted No. 13 Arizona State, 2-1, at Mullett Arena on Sunday (Nov. 26). With the win, Providence snaps it's three-game losing streak and earns a split in Tempe.

NOTES

- The teams skated through a scoreless first period as the Friars held a 10-8 advantage in shots.

- The Sun Devils appeared to take a lead 14 seconds into the second period but the goal was waived off after a Providence challenge for offsides.

- Arizona State did strike first on a power-play goal in the second period as Dylan Jackson's shot pinballed off a Friar defenseman and into the back of the net.

- Hard work by Jamie Engelbert on the forecheck led to the his third goal of the season as he beat Semptimphelter from the right faceoff circle.

- Riley Duran gave the Friars a 2-1 lead with 2:06 remaining in the second period with his fifth of the season. Graham Gamache feathered a pass off the boards to a streaking Duran, who fired a shot between the legs of Semptimphelter. Taige Harding also earned an assist on the play.

- The Friars continued to press in the third period to extend the lead, outshooting the Sun Devils by a 14-7 margin in the final frame.

- Svedebäck stood tall in the final frame, including a breakaway stop on ASU's Jackson Niedermayer.

- The Friars were forced to hold on during a 6-on-4 situation after Chase Yoder's was sent to the box for tripping with 1:30 to go.

- Craig Needham won a faceoff clean with two seconds remaining to seal the victory for the Friars.
