Five Friars Earn All-BIG EAST Accolades

Meg Hughes earned All-BIG EAST Selection for the fourth year in a row.

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The BIG EAST announced its annual women's soccer awards today (Nov. 1). Providence College senior Meg Hughes (Rochester, Mass.) was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team. Senior Avery Snead (Wrentham, Mass.) and freshman Kayla Briggs (Toronto, Canada) were named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team. Senior Emma Bodmer (Monroe Township, N.J.) and junior Gillian Kenney (Hanover, Mass.) were named to the All-BIG EAST Third Team. This sets a record for the most players in program history to earn All-BIG EAST accolades for First, Second or Third Team Honors. 
 
Prior to start the season, Hughes was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. This marks the fourth-consecutive year Hughes has earned BIG EAST postseason accolades, which has never been done in program history.  She was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Year and earned All-BIG EAST Second Team Honors in 2020-21. In 2021, Hughes was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team. In 2022, Hughes was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team. Hughes started all 17 regular season games for the Friars in 2023 and finished first on the team in scoring with 16 points on 8 goals. She currently ranks in the top-four all -time in career scoring for the Friars, with 59 points. 
 
Snead has received BIG EAST postseason recognition two times during her time at Providence. In 2021, Snead was named to the All-BIG EAST second team. She played a pivotal role for the Friars on defense starting in 17 games and tallying 1529 minutes. She helped lead the defense to eight shutouts and only allowing .67 goals per game. She also added a goal for Providence.
 
Briggs who earned All-BIG East Second Team Honors played a big role in the Friars' offense. Briggs appeared in 12 games for the Friars having been sidelined due to injury for six games. She finished fourth on the team in points, with nine on two goals and five assists. Briggs was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week twice and earned BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll once during the regular season. 
 
Goalkeeper Emma Bodmer has received postseason recognition two times during her time at Providence. In 2020, Bodmer was named to the All-BIG EAST All-Rookie Team. She helped lead the Friars to eight clean sheets and led the BIG EAST in save percentage (.905). Bodmer started all 18 games for the Friars and holds a 7-0-2 record only allowing four goals. 
 
Kenney has received postseason recognition two times at Providence. In 2021, Kenney was named to the All-BIG EAST Rookie Team. She played a pivotal role for the Friars in midfield starting in all 17 regular season games. Kenney recorded four goals and one assists in the regular season and most recently had two goals in the Friars first BIG EAST Tournament game. Kenney ranks second on the team in scoring with 13 points.
