Brendan McSorley registered two goals for the Friars.


PROVIDENCE, R.I.-
 Providence College men's soccer defeated UConn, 3-1, on Oct. 18 on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in its final home match of the regular season. Brendan McSorley (Randolph, N.J.) led the way for the Friars with two goals as the team extended its unbeaten streak to five, the longest since 2019.

GAME FLOW & NOTES 

-Providence opened the scoring early in the game. Nathan Messer (London, England) placed a shot outside of the box, finding the low right corner of the goal. Bernardo Prego (Evora, Portugal) and Diego Batista (Barcelos, Portugal) were awarded the assists. 

-McSorley headed in Messer's cross in the 17th minute to extend the Friar lead, 2-0. Messer finished the night with a goal and an assist.

-In the first half, the Huskies had three open scoring opportunities. Each shot was deflected off the post. 

-McSorley scored his second goal of the night in the 70th minute to put the Friars up, 3-0.  The goals were his seventh and eighth tallies of the season.

-UConn marked its first goal of the night after Scott Testori was able to head in Nicolas Tomerius' cross. 

-Senior Sam Biven (Atlanta, Ga.) made his season-debut in the 87th minute.

(1-0)-Providence – 6:30/1st- Messer's shot was placed in bottom right corner of the goal.  

(2-0)-Providence-17:17/1st- McSorley headed in Messer's cross. 

(3-0)-Providence-70:47/2nd-McSorely headed in Pearse O'Brien's (West Hartford, Conn.) corner kick. 

(3-1)-UConn-75:44/2nd-Testori scored a header goal.
