Women's Hoops Drops 61-51 Decision To Georgetown

Olivia Olsen scored in double figures for the eight-consecutive game.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Georgetown, 61-51, on Jan. 21 at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. The Hoyas improved to 10-9 overall (3-7 BIG EAST), while the Friars dropped to 12-9 on the season and 3-7 in conference play.
 
1ST QUARTER:
• Providence started the game with four turnovers and went 0-3 from the field, while the Hoyas jumped out to a 6-0 lead through the opening four minutes. 
Olivia Olsen got the Friars on the board with back-to-back buckets to make it a 6-4 game with 4:48 remaining on the clock.
• Georgetown went on a 10-0 run and held Providence scoreless for the final 4:48 of the quarter to take a 16-4 lead.
• Providence shot 2-10 (.200) from the field in the first quarter, while Georgetown converted 7-16 (.438) attempts.
 
2ND QUARTER:
• Providence outscored Georgetown 11-2 through the opening five minutes of action in the second to get with three (18-15).
Grace Efosa and Kylee Sheppard scored five points each during the five-minute stretch.
• Georgetown went on a quick 4-0 spurt after the media timeout, but Janai Crooms had the quick answer for Providence with her first bucket of the game (22-17).
• The Hoyas held a 26-20 advantage at halftime.
• Providence committed 14 turnovers in the first half, which led to a 15-4 scoring advantage for Georgetown.
 
3RD QUARTER:
• Georgetown opened the third on a 9-1 run to force a Providence timeout at the 7:53 mark (35-21).
• A 7-1 spurt, capped by a Meghan Huerter three pointer, got the Friars within single digits with 4:30 to play (37-28).
• Another 7-2 spurt by the Friars late in the quarter made it a seven-point game (42-35).
• Georgetown held off the threat, scoring five-straight points during the closing 31-seconds, to take a 47-35 lead at the intermission.
 
4TH QUARTER:
• Georgetown used a 14-3 scoring advantage to take control of the game with its largest lead of the day (61-39). 
• Providence closed the game with a 12-0 scoring advantage to make the final score 61-51.
 
NOTES:
• Olsen was the lone Friar to reach double figures in the scoring column with 10 points. She added five rebounds and one blocked shot. 
• Olsen has scored in double figures in 10 of the last 11 games, including each of the last eight.
• Huerter completed the day with nine points and a career-high eight rebounds. She shot 3-4 from three-point territory in the game.
• Efosa contributed nine points and seven rebounds, while Sheppard finished with eight points, four rebounds, four steals and two assists.
• The Hoyas won the glass with a 42-35 advantage on the boards.
• Providence committed 23 turnovers in the game and suffered a 28-10 deficit on the scoreboard in points off turnovers.
• The duo of Kelsey Ransom (25) and Kennedy Fauntleroy (17) combined to score 42 of Georgetown's 61 points.
 
UP NEXT:
• The Friars return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 24 against RV/RV Creighton. The game will be played at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. and is scheduled to tip-off at 7:00 p.m.
