Friars Lead Wire-To-Wire In 74-66 Win At Butler

Grace Efosa paced five Friars in double figures with 16 points; Janai Crooms posts 10th career double-double.
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – The Providence College women's basketball team led wire-to-wire in a 74-66 victory over Butler on Jan. 18 at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind. Grace Efosa paced five players in double figures with 16 points and Janai Crooms added 12 points and 11 rebounds for her 10th career double-double. The Friars improved to 12-8 overall (3-6 BIG EAST), while the Bulldogs dropped to 7-12 (2-8 BIG EAST).
1ST QUARTER:
• The Friars started the game on a 13-0 scoring run.
• The Bulldogs missed their first 10 shot attempts, before hitting their first bucket with 4:24 on the clock, sparking a 7-0 run (13-7).
• Nariah Scott halted Butler's run with a short jumper just outside the key on the Friars' next possession.
• Providence held a 20-12 lead at the intermission.
• Seven different Friars scored at least one field goal in the first quarter and were paced by Brynn Farrell's fiver points.
• The Friars shot 64-percent from the floor in the opening 10 minutes (9-14), while Butler hit just 29-percent of its attempts (5-17).
2ND QUARTER:
• Butler scored back-to-back buckets to open the second quarter to get within four (20-16).
• Farrell hit her second three of the game for Providence, sparking a 7-0 run to take an 11-point lead (27-16).
• The Friars held a 31-23 lead at the media timeout (4:49).
• A 7-2 scoring spurt got Butler within five, but Kylee Sheppard answered for Providence with a three. The bucket provided an eight-point cushion (38-30) with 1:44 to play.
• Emily Archibald converted a traditional three-point play with 10 seconds left, sending Providence to the locker room with a 41-32 halftime lead.
• Farrell paced the Friars with 10 points in the first half, while Caroline Strande netted 11 points for Butler.
• At the break, Providence was shooting 65-percent from the field (17-26), including 50-percent from three-point territory (4-8). The Bulldogs hit 38-percent of their shots (13-34), including a 2-6 effort beyond the arc (.333).
3RD QUARTER:
• Butler closed the gap to four (45-41) with 6:43 on the clock in the third, forcing a Providence timeout.
• A 6-0 run over 1:47 helped Providence bounce back out to a double-digit lead with 1:58 to play (56-45).
• The Friars held the Bulldogs without a field goal for the final 3:36 of the quarter, limiting Butler to just two points from the foul line during that span.
• Providence held a 58-47 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
4TH QUARTER:
• Butler started the fourth with a 6-2 scoring edge to get within seven.
• Providence's lead was back to double digits (66-56) at the media timeout (5:20).
• The Bulldogs outscored the Friars 19-16 in the fourth quarter, but Providence left Hinkle Fieldhouse with a 74-66 victory.

• The Friars' defense held the Bulldogs to 38-percent shooting in the game (25-65). Providence is 11-1 on the season when holding its opponent below 40-percent from the field.
• Efosa paced the Friars with 16 points and matched her career-high with nine rebounds.
• Crooms recorded her team-best third double-double of the season and 10th of her career with 12 points and 11 rebounds. She also dished five assists.
• Sheppard recorded 11 points, six rebounds and five assists.
• Farrell and Olivia Olsen rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points each.
• Olsen has scored in double digits in nine of the last 10 games, including each of the last seven.
• Archibald contributed eight points on 3-4 shooting.
