PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College field hockey team will host a pair of games at Lennon Family Field this weekend against BIG EAST foe and 11th-ranked Connecticut and non-conference foe Holy Cross. The Friars and Huskies will square off on Friday, Sept. 30 at 4:00 p.m., followed by a 1:00 p.m. match against the Crusaders on Sunday, Oct. 2. The game also serves as the backdrop for the program's annual Pink Out Friartown event, which helps raise awareness and funds for cancer research.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE COLLEGE (4-5, 2-0 BIG EAST):
• Providence enters the weekend with a 4-5 overall record, including a 2-0 mark in BIG EAST play.
• The Friars are in the midst of a three-game win streak, having defeated Villanova (5-2), Bucknell (2-1, 2OT/SO) and Georgetown (4-0).
• Three of the Friars' five losses have come against nationally ranked opponents: No. 14 Boston College (4-0), No. 6 Iowa (3-1) and No. 25 UMass (2-0). Of the eight games remaining on the 2022 regular-season schedule, four of the Friars' opponents are currently ranked in the NFHCA Coaches' Poll: No. 11 UConn, No. 23 Maine, No. 12 Old Dominion and No. 14 Liberty. Three of the four are members of the BIG EAST Conference.
• The Friars are 2-0 at home on Lennon Family Field and have won five-straight matches at the facility dating back to Oct. 17, 2021. Last season, Providence posted an 8-3 mark at Lennon Field.

Ally DeCoste was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Sept. 27. She tallied three points for the Friars in a 4-0 victory over Georgetown in Providence's only game last week. DeCoste notched the first goal of the game, which proved to be the game winner, just 1:21 into match. She picked up an assist on the Friars' fourth goal of the afternoon.
• DeCoste leads the Friars in scoring with 11 points on four goals and three assists.
• Through two conference games, DeCoste leads the league in points (eight), points per game (4.0), goals (three) and goals per game (1.5). In both of the Friars' BIG EAST games, DeCoste has scored a goal within the first five minutes of play. She found the back of the cage 4:32 in the match at Villanova and 1:21 into the action at Georgetown.

Asia Porter joined DeCoste on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll (Sept. 27), marking the second-straight week she has earned league recognition. Porter earned her first shut-out victory of the season in a 4-0 victory over Georgetown last week. She made four saves in the game, and also recorded a save on a penalty stroke early in the third quarter to maintain the clean sheet. Porter has been featured on the league's weekly honor roll each of the last two weeks.
• For the season, Porter has played 558 minutes in the cage and owns a 2.15 goals against average and a 0.737 save percentage.

Sophia Pompeo is second on the team with nine points and joins DeCoste for the team lead in goals (four).

Lisa McNamara has recorded eight points this season on two goals and a team-best four assists.
•
Niamh Gowing rounds out the list multi-goal scorers with six points on two goals and two assists.

SCOUTING #11 CONNECTICUT (6-2, 1-1 BIG EAST):
• The Huskies are ranked No. 11 in the NFHCA Division I National Coaches' Poll.
• Connecticut enters the weekend with a 6-2 overall record (1-1 BIG EAST), including a 4-2 mark against nationally ranked teams.
• UConn fell to No. 16 Liberty, 4-0, in BIG EAST play in its most recent match on Sept. 23. Prior to the loss, Connecticut was enjoying a four-game win streak, having defeated No. 7 Harvard (2-0), No. 24 Delaware (4-3, OT), No. 14 Old Dominion (2-1) and No. 16 William & Mary (3-1).
• McKenna Sergi leads Connecticut in scoring with nine points on four goals and one assist.
• Ten different Huskies have scored at least one goals this season through eight games.
• Claire Jandewerth and Julia Bressler join Sergi as the team's only multi-goal scorers. Jandewerth is second on the team in scoring with six points on two goals and two assists, while Bressler owns four points on two goals.
• Sol Simone is tied for second on the team in scoring with six points on one goal and a team-best four assists.
• In goal, Cheyenne Sprecher has played 505 minutes and owns a 1.31 goals against average and a 0.761 save percentage.
SCOUTING HOLY CROSS (3-7, 0-2 PATRIOT LEAGUE):
• Holy Cross enters the weekend with a 3-7 overall record and will travel to Providence for its only game of the week on Sunday.
• Holy Cross has earned victories in two of its last three games, including a 4-1 win over Davidson in its most recent match (Sept. 25).
• Meggan Fourie leads the Crusaders in scoring with 16 points on seven goals and two assists. She has recorded a season-best two goals in three different games vs. Bryant, Merrimack and Davidson. Fourie also added an assist in the Davidson game, giving her a season-best five points.
• Gabby Venezia, Allie McDonough and Katie Guden have each scored three goals through 10 games.
• Sinead Walsh leads the squad in assists, with five.
• Brooke Ross has played 612 minutes in the cage for Holy Cross and owns a 2.16 goals against average and 0.703 save percentage.
WHAT'S NEXT:
• Upon completion of this weekend's action against UConn and Holy Cross, the Friars will return to the field on Friday, Oct. 7 against BIG EAST foe Temple. The match is set for 3:00 p.m. at Howarth Field in Philadelphia, Pa. Providence closes the weekend with a home match against No. 23 Maine on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 1:00 p.m. on Lennon Family Field.
