9/23/2022 2:43:00 PM | Field Hockey

Asia Porter picked up her first shutout of the season; Four different Friars score goals in the win.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Providence College field hockey team won its third-consecutive game and improved to 2-0 in the BIG EAST Conference with a 4-0 victory at Georgetown on Friday, Sept. 23. Georgetown dropped to 3-6 on the year (0-2 BIG EAST).

1ST QUARTER:
• The Friars took a 1-0 lead just 1:21 into the action as Ally DeCoste (Braintree, Mass.) collected a feed from Lisa McNamara (Barre, Vt.) on the right side of the circle and fired a low shot to beat Georgetown's goalkeeper.
• DeCoste nearly made it a two-goal advantage several minutes later as she got loose in transition, but her shot attempt toward the far post went wide by mere inches.
• Providence held a 1-0 lead at the conclusion of the opening frame.

2ND QUARTER:
Nora Goddard-Despot (North Vancouver, British Columbia) tallied her first goal of the season to give the Friars a 2-0 lead at 23:19. She collected a rebound off the goalkeeper's pads on an initial shot by Cami Crook (Somerset, Mass.) during a penalty corner.
• At the half, Providence led in shots (6-5) and shots on goal (4-1). Georgetown held a slim edge in penalty corner opportunities, 4-3.

3RD QUARTER:
• Georgetown earned three-consecutive penalty corners inside the first two minutes of play in the third.
• McNamara converted a penalty stroke at 33:21 to give Providence a 3-0 lead. It marked her second goal of the season, and both have come from the stroke mark.
Sophia Pompeo (Portland, Maine) got in on the action, scoring her fourth goal of the season off a feed from DeCoste at 39:11. DeCoste fired a pass across the goal mouth from the right side for Pompeo's redirection.

4TH QUARTER:
• Providence kept the pressure on, earning five-straight penalty corners in the opening minute of play. The consecutive corners yielded four shots, but the Friars were unable to find the back of the cage.
Asia Porter (Somerset, Mass.) held on to the clean sheet in goal, making a save on a penalty-stroke opportunity by Vivienne Trumpbour at 51:45.

NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• Porter earned her first shut-out victory of the season and third of her career. She recorded four saves in the win.
• Four different Friars scored in the game, and McNamara led the team with three points on one goal and one assist.
• The Friars finished the game with advantages in shots (16-11), shots on goal (10-4) and penalty corners (10-9). Seven of the Friars' 10 offensive corners came during the fourth quarter.
• Providence has won three-straight games and improved to 2-0 in the BIG EAST with the win over Georgetown.
• The Friars have earned victories in each of the last 10 meetings against the Hoyas overall.
