PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College volleyball team fell short to Iona, 3-1, on August 26 at the Iona Tournament in New Rochelle, N.Y.

FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS:Â Providence captured the first set, 25-16.

Sammie Ruggles (North Olmstead, Ohio) finished the set with 12 assists.

Kayla Grant (Rowlett, Texas) tallied five kills.
Jennifer Leitman (Irvine, Calif) added four.

Brielle Mullally (Garden Grove, Calif.) led the Friars with six digs.
- Providence had five team serve aces.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS:Â Iona took set two, 25-22.

Mackenzie Taylor (Holbrook, N.Y.) notched eight digs to take her total to 12 in the match.
- Ruggles contributed 10 assists and nine digs.
- The Friars locked in 11 kills.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS:Â Â Providence fell short in the third set, 22-25.
- Ruggles and Taylor paced the Friars defensively with a set-high eight digs apiece.

Sasha Rudich (Austin, Texas) each had two block assists.

Emma Nelson (West Chester, Pa.),
Shaliyah Rhoden (Rowlett, Texas) and Mullally collectively added nine kills to the tally.
- The Friars held the Gaels to a .128 hitting %.
FOURTH SET HIGHLIGHTS:Â The Gaels finished out the match with a 25-17 victory.
- Grant tallied four kills, giving her 12 in the match.
- Ruggles led the Friars in assists, recording nine.
MATCH NOTES:

Sammie Ruggles posted a career-high 40 assists in her first career double-double with 19 digs.
- Four Friars, Mullally, Ruggles, Taylor, and
Jiji Lykins (Virginia Beach, Va.), ended the match with double-digit digs.
- The Friars had 16 total team blocks.
- Mullally and Lykins also earned career highs with 18 digs and 12 digs, respectfully.
