PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College volleyball team edged out CCSU in four sets on August 26 at the Iona Tournament in New Rochelle, N.Y. to start the 2022 season.
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: CCSU claimed the first set, 25-19.

Sasha Rudich (Austin, Texas) led the Friars with four kills.

Brielle Mullally (Garden Grove, Calif.) and
Mackenzie Taylor (Holbrook, N.Y.) each tallied five digs.

Sammie Ruggles (North Olmstead, Ohio) recorded 11 assists.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence fought back to take the second set, 26-24.
- Ruggles added nine more assists, giving her 20 in the match.
- There were five lead changes, taking the set beyond 25.

Jennifer Leitman (Irvine, Calif.) notched four kills, taking her to five in the match.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: The Friars captured the third set, 25-19

Shaliyah Rhoden (Rowlett, Texas) recorded four kills, giving her nine in the match.
- Providence had four service aces. Â
- Rudich tallied four block assists.

FOURTH SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence took the fourth set, 25-17.
- Providence went on a 9-0 run to start off the set.
- The Friars maintained the lead through the entirety of the set.
- Leitman tallied five kills.
Kayla Grant (Rowlett, Texas) added four.
- Taylor and Mullally accounted for 11 digs.
MATCH NOTES:
- Providence had 49 total kills, led by Leitman (12), Rhoden (11) and Grant (nine).
- The Friars recorded 14 total blocks.

Kayla Grant played her first match in a Friar uniform leading the team in hitting pct. (.471).
- Leitman posted her first double-double of the season, tallying 12 blocks and 10 digs.
- Taylor led the Friars with 21 digs.
