PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men's hockey program unveiled its 2022-23 schedule on Monday (July 11). The schedule consists of 34 regular season contests, nine games against teams that appeared in last season's NCAA tournament, as well as two exhibition games.
The Friars, coming off 22-win campaign in 2021-22, will tune-up for the regular with exhibition contests against Western Ontario on Oct. 1 at home and on the road at Quinnipiac the following day on Oct. 2. The Friars kick-off the regular season on Friday, Oct. 7 at home against Sacred Heart. Clarkson pays a visit to Schneider Arena on Thursday, Oct. 13 before the Friars open Hockey East play on the road at Northeastern on Oct. 15. Providence pays a visit to the Mile High City for the first time since 2018 as they battle the defending national champion Denver Pioneers from Oct. 21-22. October wraps up with a home-and-home set against New Hampshire (Oct. 28-29).
November opens with three-consecutive Hockey East weekends as the Friars battle UMass (Nov. 4-5) and UConn (Nov. 11-12) in home-and-home series prior to hosting Vermont for a pair from Nov. 18-19. The month concludes as a pair of ECAC squads visit Schneider Arena – St. Lawrence (Nov. 25) and a Mayor's Cup battle against Brown on Nov. 26. A home-and-home against Boston College (Dec. 2-3) and a single contest against Merrimack (Dec. 10) round out the first half of the schedule.
The second half begins at the Ledyard Bank Classic in Hanover, N.H. as the Friars look to continue their success after winning the tournament back in 2018. Providence opens with Yale on Dec. 30 before battling either Merrimack or Dartmouth the following night on Dec. 31. A January 6 matchup at home against New Hampshire begins the 2023 calendar prior to the Friars embarking on a six-game road trip to close out the month. A visit to Army West Point (Jan. 8), a pair at Merrimack (Jan. 13-14), a road contest at Princeton (Jan. 17) and two games in Orono against Maine (Jan. 27-28) close out January's slate.
February begins with a home matchup against UMass (Feb. 3), following by a road tilt at Vermont on Sunday, Feb. 5. The Friars conclude their season series against Northeastern at home on Feb. 10 before the regular season wraps up with home-and-home sets against UMass Lowell (Feb. 17-18) and Boston University (March 3-4).
The single elimination Hockey East Tournament begins in the opening round on Wednesday, March 8, followed by quarterfinal matchups on Saturday, March 11. The Hockey East Semifinals and Championship Game will take place at TD Garden in Boston on March 17-18.
