PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College men's hockey forward
Roger McQueen (Saskatoon, Sask.) was announced as the Pro Ambitions Hockey East Rookie of the Year on Thursday (March 19). McQueen becomes the first Friar since Jon Gillies in 2012-13 and the fourth Friar overall to win the league's Rookie of the Year award, joining Rob Gaudreau (1988-89) and Craig Darby (1991-92).
McQueen, the 10
th overall pick by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2025 NHL Draft, recorded nine goals and nine assists for 18 points with a +10 rating in league play this season while leading all freshmen with 74 shots on goal. Overall, McQueen finished second on the Friars in scoring this season with 27 points on 11 goals and 16 assists. He registered three game-winning goals and posted six multi-point games while being named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team.
