MILWAUKEE, WIS. – The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Marquette, 61-59, on Feb. 4 at the Al McGuire Center in Milwaukee, Wis. The back-and-forth battle saw 10 lead changes and nine ties, but the Golden Eagles used a +8 advantage at the free throw line to win the game. Marquette sank 16-20 attempts from the charity stripe, while the Friars hit 8-13 shots at the line.
1ST QUARTER:
• The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair with neither team able to mount more than a two point lead.
• The Friars led 14-12 with 1:44 remaining on the clock as
Audrey Koch converted a lay-in.
• The Golden Eagles closed the quarter with four unanswered points to take a 16-14 advantage into the break.
2ND QUARTER:
• Marquette scored the first bucket of the second quarter to take an 18-14 lead.
• The Friars responded with a 5-0 run to regain the lead (19-18) as
Nariah Scott drained a three, followed by a
Kylee Sheppard jumper.
• Jordan King scored five-straight points for Marquette and forced a Providence timeout at the 3:36 mark. The Golden Eagles led 28-23.

Janai Crooms came out of the timeout and knocked down a step-back three for the Friars and
Alyssa Geary hit a free throw to get Providence within 28-27.
• Providence was held scoreless the final 2:18 of the of the second quarter, as Marquette took a 32-27 lead into halftime.
3RD QUARTER:
•
Mary Baskerville scored the first four points in the third quarter and Sheppard converted a lay-up on fast break to force a Marquette timeout just 2:24 into the action.
• The 6-0 spurt gave Providence a 33-32 lead.
• The Golden Eagles regained the lead with a 7-0 run in a span of 1:07 as Karissa McLaughlin tallied four points and Lauren Van Kleunen added three (39-33).
• Providence used a 6-2 scoring edge to cut the deficit to 41-39, but in a game of runs, Marquette was able to stretch its lead to seven with a quick 5-0 spurt with 1:59 to play in the frame (46-39).
• The Golden Eagles took a 46-40 edge into the fourth quarter.
4TH QUARTER:
• Van Kleunen scored Marquette's first five points in the fourth to help the Golden Eagles claim a 51-42 lead with 7:19 on the clock.

Olivia Olsen hit a pair of free throws and Crooms crossed up multiple defenders to get an easy lay-in to help the Friars get within five midway through the quarter (51-46).
• After a defensive stop, Geary converted a lay-up to extend the Friars' run to 6-0 and make it a three point game (51-48).
• Marquette had the answer, once again, with a 6-0 run of its own to extend the lead to 57-48 with 3:01 to go.
• Olsen and Sheppard combined to score six unanswered for the Friars to force a Marquette timeout with 58-seconds left in the game (57-54).
• The Friars took advantage of poor free throw shooting by Marquette (3-6) and
Kylee Sheppard scored five-straight points, including a step-back three with 11 seconds left, to get PC within one (60-59).
• McLaughlin hit one of two free throws with seven seconds left (61-59) and the Friars called timeout to advance the ball.
• Sheppard found Olsen on the right block for a look to tie the game, but McLaughlin was able to recover and tip the ball loose.
• The Golden Eagles held on for the two-point win.
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• Providence hit four of its final five shot attempts to make it a game late in the fourth.
• There were a total of 10 lead changes and nine ties in the game.
• Crooms finished the game with 16 points, five rebounds and five assists.
• Sheppard netted 15 points and added three rebounds, two steals and one assist.
• Scott got her second straight start for the Friars and grabbed a team-high six boards before taking a seat with five fouls.
• Van Kleunen scored a game-high 19 points to lead three players in double figures for Marquette. King finished with 16, followed by 14 points and seven assists from McLaughlin.
• The Golden Eagles held a 44-30 advantage in rebounding. Eighteen of Marquette's rebounds came off the offensive glass.
• Providence shot 43-percent from the field (23-54), including 5-10 from beyond the arc (.500) and hit 8-13 free throws.
• Marquette shot just 33-percent from the field (21-63), including 3-9 from the arc (.333), but finished the game +8 at the free-throw line (16-20).

• The Friars return to action on Sunday, Feb. 6 against DePaul. The game will be played at Wintrust Arena in Chicago, Ill. and is scheduled to tip-off at 3:00 p.m. (ET).
