Seton Hall Pulls Away In Fourth Quarter For 62-52 Win

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Seton Hall pulled away in the fourth quarter to defeat Providence College, 62-52, on Feb. 18 at Walsh Gymnasium in South Orange, N.J. The game was tied 39-39 heading into the final frame, but the Pirates' Lauren Park-Lane scored 13 of her 14 points in the fourth quarter to lift Seton Hall to victory. 
 
1ST QUARTER:
• Providence forced a Seton Hall timeout with 6:23 remaining in the quarter after forcing the Pirates into four turnovers and gaining a 4-0 advantage on the scoreboard.
• The Friars' run extended to 8-0 before Seton Hall finally got on the board with a pair of free throws at 3:33 (8-2).
• The Pirates converted back-to-back buckets at 2:16 and 1:29 to cut the deficit to 10-6, marking Seton Hall's only field goals of the quarter.
• Providence took the four-point lead into the break (10-6).
 
2ND QUARTER:
• Seton Hall used an 8-2 run to take its first lead of the game (19-18) with 4:34 on the clock.
• After a Providence timeout, Olivia Olsen scored on a lay-in at the left block to help the Friars regain the lead.
• Seton Hall answered with a 5-0 run to claim a 24-20 lead before Providence's Grace Efosa converted three-straight points to close the half.
• The Pirates took a 24-23 edge into the locker room at halftime.
• Crooms and Olsen led the scoring with six points apiece for the Friars, while Andra Espinoza-Hunter tallied nine points for Seton Hall.
• Providence held the advantage in the paint, outscoring the Pirates 20-8.
 
3RD QUARTER:
• The Friars used an 8-2 run to take a 32-31 lead, fueled by Olsen and Mary Baskerville, who scored four points each.
• After falling behind by three, the Friars reeled off another 7-2 scoring run to take a 39-37 lead.
• The two teams were deadlocked, 39-39, heading into the fourth quarter.
 
4TH QUARTER:
• Providence struck first in the fourth quarter as Crooms scored off a put back (41-39).
• Crooms converted a pair of free throws on PC's next offensive trip down the floor to make it a four-point game.
• Lauren Park-Lane responded with back-to-back three-pointers and followed with a lay-up, marking her first field goals of the game, to give the Pirates a 47-43 advantage (6:42).
• Olsen hit one of two free throws to end a scoreless drought of 2:40 (47-44).
• Seton Hall claimed its largest lead of the night (58-49) with 1:55 remaining in regulation and pushed out to a 12-point advantage with 28-seconds left.
• Nariah Scott finished the scoring with a pair of free throws for PC to make the final 62-52 in favor of the Pirates.
 
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• Crooms (14) and Olsen (13) combined to score 27 of the Friars' 52 points in the game.
• Olsen and Baskerville each recorded eight rebounds.
• Seton Hall outscored Providence 23-13 in the decisive fourth quarter.
• Park-Lane scored 13 of her 14 points in the final frame to fuel the Pirates and she also dished a game-high six assists.
• Espinoza-Hunter led Seton Hall with a game-high 17 points.
• The Hall took advantage of 17 Providence miscues to outscore the Friars 18-8 in points off turnovers.
• Providence held a 32-20 scoring advantage in the paint.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
• The Friars will return to action on Sunday, Feb. 20 against St. John's at Carnesecca Arena in Queens, N.Y. Tip-off is slated for 1:00 p.m.
