Friars Put Bulldogs Away On The Road At Hinkle Fieldhouse, 69-41

Janai Crooms paced the Friars with 17 points; Grace Efosa scored a career-high 10 points.
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – The Providence College women's basketball team defeated Butler, 69-41, during BIG EAST regular-season action at Hinkle Fieldhouse on Feb. 16. Three Friars reached double figures in the scoring column, led by Janai Crooms (17).
1ST QUARTER:
• Friars got out to a 4-0 lead, but Xavier responded with a 7-0 run to take the lead.
• Providence went scoreless for nearly five minutes of play before getting back on the board at the 3:07 mark with an Olivia Olsen lay-in at the left block (7-6).
• Mary Baskerville recorded a steal with 24-seconds left on the clock and it resulted in a three-point bucket for Julia Fabozzi as the quarter expired.
• Providence held the Bulldogs scoreless for the final 4:23 of the frame.
• The Friars scored five-unanswered points to take a 9-7 lead into the intermission.
2ND QUARTER:
• Providence led 15-12 at the second quarter media timeout (4:43) with both teams mired in scoring droughts of nearly three minutes.
• Alyssa Geary hit a three-pointer as the shot clock expired on the Friars' first possession out of the timeout to give PC an 18-12 lead.
• Geary's three was part of an 8-0 run helping to lift the Friars to a 21-12 lead.
• Providence held Butler scoreless for nearly six minutes until Kendall Wingler hit a three with 1:36 on the clock.
• The Friars carried a 26-17 lead into halftime, having converted each of their final three shot attempts in the second quarter.
• Geary and Crooms each scored seven points in the first half.
• Providence recorded eight assists on 11 made field goals in the first half.
• Baskerville led the way with a season-high three assists in 12 minutes of action.
• Celena Taborn and Wingler each recorded five points for Butler.
3RD QUARTER:
• Providence started the third 0-5 from the field before Geary scored on a strong take to the hoop with 6:44 on the clock.
• Butler scored on its first possession of the quarter just 19-seconds into the action and then went scoreless for 3:11 before Emilia Sexton hit a three at the 6:30 mark.
• Grace Efosa followed with back-to-back buckets to give the Friars a 32-22 lead with 5:27 to play in the frame.
• Butler scored five-straight points to cut the deficit in half, but Audrey Koch drained a three for the Friars to give her squad a 35-27 advantage at the media timeout (4:23).
• Koch's bucket sparked a 10-2 run to put Providence ahead 42-29. All 10 points were scored by a trio of freshmen, including Kylee Sheppard (5), Nariah Scott (2) and Koch (3).
• Providence extended its run to 17-2 capped by a Crooms three-pointer from the left wing as time expired in the quarter.
• Providence held Butler scoreless over the final 3:12 of the third frame and took a 49-29 lead into the final 10 minutes of action.
4TH QUARTER:
• The Friars out-scored the Bulldogs 11-6 through 5:42 of play in the fourth to gain a 60-35 lead at the media.
• Providence held a 20-12 scoring edge in the quarter en route to the 69-41 victory.
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• The 69-41 win over Butler marked the second-largest margin of victory this season (+28). Providence defeated Monmouth by 30 earlier this season (64-34).
• Crooms paced the Friars in scoring with 17 points and added four rebounds, three steals and two assists.
• Geary netted 11 points on 4-8 shooting and recorded four blocked shots, three rebounds and two steals.
• Efosa registered a career-high 10 points on 4-6 shooting from the field and a 2-2 performance at the foul line. She also hauled in a season-high five rebounds.
• Olsen made her first appearance in the starting line-up for the Friars and finished the night with six points, three blocked shots, one assist, one steal and a team-best nine rebounds.
• Baskerville dished a career-high five assists and added three steals in the game.
• The Friars took advantage of 22 Butler miscues and outscored the Bulldogs 24-5 in points off of turnovers.
• Providence's bench played a key role in the offense, outscoring Butler's bench, 24-10.
• Providence finished the night 25-56 from the floor (.446), including 40-percent shooting from beyond the arc (8-20).
• The Friars committed a season-low 10 turnovers.

• The Friars (11-14, 6-10 BIG EAST) will remain on the road to complete a three-game swing against Seton Hall and St. John's. Providence will tip-off against Seton Hall on Friday, Feb. 18 at 7:00 p.m. in South Orange, N.J. On Sunday, Feb. 20, the Friars will take on the Red Storm at 1:00 p.m. in Queens, N.Y.
