Olivia Olsen netted a career-best 22 points and added eight boards, three blocks and two assists.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's basketball team defeated cross-city foe Brown, 62-44, at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. The Friars improved to 7-4 overall, including a 6-1 mark at Alumni Hall. Brown dropped to 6-4 on the season.
HIGHLIGHTS:
1ST QUARTER:
• Providence started the game on a 7-0 run through the first four minutes of play.
• Brown got on the board with a traditional three-point play at the 6:01 mark (7-3) and hit a three with 4:23 on the clock to get within one (7-6).
• Providence held a 6-4 advantage in scoring to close the quarter and went to the intermission with a 13-10 lead.
2ND QUARTER:
• Brown started the second quarter with a 9-2 scoring advantage to take 19-15 lead.
• Kylee Sheppard halted a Friars scoring drought of over five minutes with a jumper from the left baseline at 4:04 and added a lay-up at the 3:19 mark to tie the game, 19-19.
• Providence regained the lead on a traditional three-point play by Olivia Olsen and sparked an 11-0 run to close the half.
• The Friars took a 30-21 lead into the locker room at halftime.
• Olsen paced the Friars with seven points, five rebounds and two blocked shots.
• Grace Arnolie led Brown with 10 points.
3RD QUARTER:
• A 7-0 Providence run put the Friars up 43-29 (6:40).
• Providence outscored the Bears 22-14 overall in the quarter to mount a 17-point advantage heading into the final 10 minutes.
• Olsen scored nine points in the third, bringing her total to 16 for the game.
4TH QUARTER:
• Providence started the final frame with an 8-0 scoring advantage to push its lead to more than 20 for the first time in the game (60-35).
• Brown finally got back in the scoring column with 5:33 to play on a lay-in by Kyla Jones (60-37).
• Providence was scoreless the final 4:01 of the game, but still maintained a comfortable lead en route to a 62-44 victory.
NOTES:
• Olsen finished the night with a career-high 22 points on 7-14 shooting. She also added a team-best eight rebounds and three blocked shots. Five of her eight rebounds came off the offensive glass.
• Sheppard finished the night with eight points, while Janai Crooms dished a team-best four assists.
• Providence shot over 50-percent from the field for the third time this season (.511, 24-47).
• The Friars improved to 7-0 when holding their opponent below 40-percent from the field. In this case, Brown finished the night 26.4-percent from the floor (14-53).
• Seven of Brown's 14 field goals were from three-point range.
• The Friars committed a season-high 25 turnovers and Brown turned the ball over 20 times. However, Providence managed to outscore the Bears 14-5 in points off turnovers.
• PC held a 43-21 advantage on the glass, and used a 30-8 scoring advantage in the paint.
