Friars Cruise To 77-45 Victory Over Central Connecticut

Five Friars score in double figures led by Janai Crooms' 16 points.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's basketball team cruised to a 77-45 victory over Central Connecticut State University on Saturday, Dec. 10 at Alumni Hall. In a total team effort, Janai Crooms paced five Friars double figures. The Friars improved to 8-4 overall, while CCSU dropped to 2-7.
1ST QUARTER:
• Providence used a 6-0 run to mount a 10-4 lead with 2:52 left in the quarter.
• CCSU answered with five-straight points to cut the deficit to two points (10-8).
• Olsen hit a jumper in the paint with 41-seconds remaining to give Providence a 12-8 lead at the intermission.
• Olsen scored six of the Friars' 12 points in the opening quarter on 3-4 shooting.
2ND QUARTER:
• Central Connecticut opened the quarter with an 8-1 scoring advantage to take a 16-13 lead.
• A 17-0 spurt during span of 4:55 helped the Friars regain the lead (32-19) with 1:40 on the clock.
• CCSU got back on the board with 1:08 remaining in the quarter with a jumper from the left elbow, but Brynn Farrell answered with a triple from the left wing with 43-seconds left (35-21).
• Providence went into the locker room at halftime with a 37-22 lead.
• Crooms scored eight points in the second quarter and finished the half with 10. She also recorded a team-best five rebounds and three assists.
• Olsen paced the Friars in the first half with 11 points and added four rebounds.
3RD QUARTER:
• A 12-0 run pushed the Friars lead to 25 with 3:26 remaining in the third (51-26).
• Providence outscored CCSU 21-10 overall in the quarter and took a 58-32 edge into the final frame.
4TH QUARTER:
• Providence outscored Central Connecticut 19-13 in the final 10 minutes to close out the 77-45 victory.
• Meghan Huerter tallied eight points in the fourth quarter on 2-2 shooting from three-point territory and a 2-2 performance at the charity stripe.
NOTES:
• Crooms paced the Friars with 16 points, seven rebounds and four assists in just 18 minutes of action.
• Olsen added 15 points, six boards and one blocked shot.
• Huerter posted a career high with 11 points on 3-6 shooting from beyond the arc and her three made triples tied her career high.
• Farrell and Logan Cook each completed the day with 10 points.
• Providence dominated the glass (44-22) and the squad recorded a season-best 17 offensive rebounds, which led to a 15-1 advantage in second-chance points.
• The Friars outscored the Blue Devils 46-14 in the paint.
• Providence 32-point margin of victory is the largest of the season and the second victory of 30-or-more points.
• Five Friars reached double figures in the scoring column for the second time this season.
• Providence improved to 4-0 this season when three-or-more players score in double figures.
• The Friars are 7-1 on their home court this season (Alumni Hall).
• Providence is 8-2 in non-conference action, with one non-conference foe remaining on the schedule (at Sacred Heart on Dec. 20).
UP NEXT:
• The Friars will return to action on Sunday, Dec. 18 against BIG EAST foe St. John's at Carnesecca Arena in Queens, N.Y. Tip-off is slated for 4:30 p.m. and the game will be nationally televised on FS1.
