CINCINNATI, OHIO — The Providence College volleyball team fell to Xavier in straight sets on Sunday, Nov. 6 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: Xavier took set one, 27-25.
- After an early 10-10 tie, the Friars registered four straight kills to give them a 14-10 lead. The Friars' spurt included three kills from Brielle Mullally (Garden Grove, Calif.).
- A 20-14 Providence lead led to a Xavier timeout. Out of the break, the Musketeers closed the deficit by scoring seven of the next eight points (21-21).
- Back-to-back attack errors by the Friars allowed Xavier to take the set, 27-25.
- Mullally and Shaliyah Rhoden (Rowlett, Texas) paced the Friars offensively with six kills apiece.
- Mackenzie Taylor (Holbrook, N.Y.) collected a team-best six digs.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: Xavier won set two, 26-24.
- Xavier started the set with a 6-3 lead over the Friars.
- At the point of a 7-7 tie, the Friars scored four straight points, forcing a Xavier timeout (11-7)
- The Musketeers responded scoring four of their own, closing the deficit to one (12-11).
- A 4-1 run by the Musketeers led to a Providence timeout (17-17). Out of the break, the set remained within two, pushing it beyond 25.
- Xavier scored three-straight points to close the set.
- Emma Nelson (West Chester, Pa.) notched a team-best seven kills.
- Eight athletes put the Friars on the board for digs.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: Xavier took the match, winning the third set 25-12.
- Xavier led the set wire to wire.
- A 16-5 lead by the Musketeers led to a Providence timeout.
- Out of the break, Xavier maintained it's dominant lead, closing the set 25-12.
- Kayla Grant (Rowlett, Texas) recorded the only block for Providence with a solo block.
- Mullally collected six digs.
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:
- Rhoden was the only Friar to reach double-digit digs.
- Mullally posted a double-double with 16 kills and 12 digs.
WHAT'S NEXT… The Friars will return home next weekend as they welcome Marquette and DePaul to Alumni Hall.
