Volleyball Drops Match To No. 13 Creighton In Straight Sets

The Friars return to action on Sunday, Nov. 6 at Xavier.

OMAHA, NEB. – The Providence College volleyball team fell to the No. 13 Creighton Bluejays in straight sets on Friday, Nov. 4 in Omaha, Neb.
 
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: Creighton took set one, 25-13.
  • Creighton led the set wire to wire.
  • The Friars got as close as eight (19-11) but weren't able to close the deficit.
  • Brielle Mullally (Garden Grove, Calif.) and Maryanne Boyle (Blacklick, Ohio) combined for five kills.
  • Five different Friars put Providence on the board for digs, led by Mullally's two.

SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: The Bluejays won the set, 25-14.
  • After an early 3-3 tie, Creighton went on a 5-2 run to take an 8-5 lead early in the second set, forcing a Providence timeout.
  • Out of the break, the Bluejays continued their demanding lead, scoring 11 of the next 16 points and ultimately took the set, 25-14.
  • Mackenzie Taylor (Holbrook, N.Y.) collected a team-best four digs.
  • Sasha Rudich (Austin, Texas) and Kayla Grant (Rowlett, Texas) each added two kills.

THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: Creighton claimed the match with a 25-16 victory.
  • Providence started the set with a 4-2 lead until Creighton scored four straight points to take control, 6-4.
  • The Friars remained within four until Creighton scored another four straight to distance themselves (18-10). The Bluejays' momentum continued through the end of the set as they won, 25-16.
  • Mullally recorded four kills on seven attempts, hitting .571.
  • Grant notched a pair of blocks consisting of one block assist and one solo block.

MATCH NOTES: 
  • Mullally recorded a team-best seven kills and nine assists.
  • Taylor collected a team-best nine digs.
  • The Friars had 20 total kills and 29 total blocks.
