PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's hockey team will host Union College at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 7 before hosting RPI at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8.
Scouting the Friars
During the Friars' opening weekend, Providence split with St. Lawrence. On Friday, Sept. 23 the Friars took the 3-2 win in overtime. Saturday (Sept. 24), the Friars lost 5-2 to the Saints.
Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) finished the series with 56 saves and a .903 save percentage.
Caroline Peterson (East Falmouth, Mass.) leads the Friars in goals this season after scoring two during the St. Lawrence series.
Lauren DeBlois (Lewiston, Maine) and
Rachel Weiss (Calgary, Canada) are tied with two assists.
The Friars finished 2021-22 with a 16-14-6 overall record, including a 12-12-3 mark in Hockey East with a .500 winning percentage. The program advanced to the quarterfinals of the Hockey East Tournament.
Providence returns top scorer,
Caroline Peterson, who posted 11 goals and six assists last season. Offensive threat
Lindsay Bochna (Toronto, Ontario) also returns to the lineup. Bochna tallied nine goals and 10 assists last season for a team-high 19 points in her sophomore season.
The Friars return top defensemen
Brooke Becker (Orchard Park, N.Y.) and
Lauren DeBlois (Lewiston, Maine). Becker totaled two goals and 10 assists last season, making her third in total points amongst returners. DeBlois had one goal and 11 assists last season.
In net,
Sandra Abstreiter returns for Providence. Abstreiter started in 27 of the 36 games last season and tallied a career high of 802 saves. She had a 9.45 save percentage and a 1.73 goals against average.
Hockey East Preseason Poll
The Friars were picked to finish fourth in the Hockey East Preseason Poll, which was released on Tuesday, Sept. 13. Providence received 61 points and was picked to finish behind Northeastern (90), Vermont (79) and Boston College (76). The Huskies, who won the 2022 Hockey East Tournament, received nine first place votes.
Rounding out the poll was Boston University (59), UConn (53), Maine (39), New Hampshire (38), Merrimack (26) and Holy Cross (19).
Friars in the National Poll
The Friars received votes in both the USCHO and USA Hockey Polls. Providence tallied 14 votes in the USCHO poll and three votes in the USA Hockey Poll.
Hockey East Award Winners
Reichen Kirchmair (Oakville, Ontario) was named Hockey East Pro-Ambitions Rookie of the Week as announced on Sept. 26. Kirchmair was recognized for scoring the game-winner with her first career goal against St. Lawrence.
Fresh Friar Faces
Providence welcomes seven new players (three transfers and four freshmen) to the roster for the 2022-23 season.
Noemi Neubauerova (Prague, Czech Republic) is a graduate student from Colgate University.
Ida Press (Uppsala, Sweden) is a graduate student from University of Maine.
Rachel Weiss (Calgary, Canada) is a junior from Penn State. The four freshmen are Mégane Quirion (Saint-Eustahce, Quebec),
Kayla Kutes (Kirkland, Wa.),
Reichen Kirchmair (Oakville, Ontario) and

Scouting the Dutchwomen
Union College currently holds a 2-2-0 overall record with a 0-0-0 ECAC conference record. The Dutchwomen split with New Hampshire and Holy Cross. The Friars hold a 8-1-1 all-time record over the Dutchwomen.
Who to Watch
Emily King leads the Dutchwomen in points with four goals and two assists. Tied with King for goals is Riley Walsh, who has a total of four points. Stephanie Bourque leads in assists with a total of three assists across four games.
Sophie Matsoukas stands in net for the Dutchwomen. Matsoukas holds a 2.79 GAA and has a .904 save percentage.
Scouting the Engineers
The Engineers enter the game at 0-2-0 (0-0-0 ECAC). Last weekend RPI finished a non-conference series against St. Cloud State University with two losses. The Friars and Engineers are tied at 3-3-1 in the all-time series.
Who to Watch
Last season, Marah Wagner led RPI in goals, assists and points with 11 goals and 10 assists for 21 total points. Wagner returns for her senior year this season. Goalie Amanda Rampado also returns for her senior year. Rampado has a total of 47 saves so far this season.
