Providence College Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Teams To Compete At BIG EAST Championships.

Providence College will host the BIG EAST Cross Country Championships at the Mark Coogan Course in Attleboro, Mass.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The men's and women's cross country teams will compete at the BIG EAST Cross Country Championships hosted by Providence College on Saturday, Oct. 29. The race will be held at the Mark Coogan Course at Highland Park, located in Attleboro, Mass. The women's 6k race with commence at 11:00 a.m., followed by the men's 8k race at 11:50 a.m. An awards ceremony will follow the races at 12:40 p.m.
 
The Friar women enter the race ranked No. 18 in the country and No. 2 in the Northeast Region. The men's team comes in ranked third in the Northeast Region. Other nationally ranked teams the Friars will race against include the No. 11 Villanova men and Georgetown at No. 26 for men and No. 12 for women.
 
Freshman Jane Buckley (Cork, Ireland) led the past two races for the Friars. Buckley first ran this season at the Lehigh Paul Short Invite on Sept. 30 where she finished seventh overall (19:40.8). At the Wisconsin Nuttycombe Invite on Oct. 14, Buckley had a strong performance, finishing first for the Friars and 38th overall. Junior Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England) has placed in the top-five for Providence at every meet this season. Most recently, Flockhart was the second Friar and 79th overall to cross the finish line at the Wisconsin Nuttycombe Invite in a time of 20:44.5. Senior Lilly Tuck (Sunderland, Canada) finished the Friar Invitational in first place with a time of 17:16.42. Tuck also scored for the Friars at the Lehigh Paul Short Invite with a time of 20:14.8 for 37th place.
 
Junior Liam Back (New Plymouth, New Zealand) and graduate student David Principe, Jr. (Johnston, R.I.) will lead the Friar men at the line. Back finished the Friar Invitational in third (24:40.84) and 12th at the Lehigh Paul Short Invite (23:17.3). Principe finished 11th at the Friar Invitational (25:07.78) and 14th at Lehigh (23:18.0). Additionally, graduate student Marcelo Rocha (Peabody, Mass) also will run at the BIG EAST Championship. Rocha finished first for the Friars and 59th overall at the Wisconsin Nuttycombe Invite in a time of 23:49.7. At last year's conference championship, Rocha finished fourth overall.
